Professional-Grade Strength for Food-Contact Equipment
Permabond ET5162 is a high-strength, two-part epoxy adhesive developed specifically for demanding bonding applications involving stainless steel and food-contact equipment. Its lightly thixotropic, gap-filling formula stays where it is applied, giving you plenty of working time to position parts before the adhesive begins to cure.
ET5162 is FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and 175.300 compliant and also complies with EU 10/2011 food-contact regulations, making it an excellent choice when ordinary hardware-store epoxy isn't appropriate for the application.
Whether you're repairing stainless equipment, assembling food-processing components, bonding aluminum fixtures, or working with composite parts, ET5162 delivers a strong, rigid and durable bond with excellent temperature resistance.

What Does “Food Safe” Mean?
Permabond ET5162 isn't simply described as a general-purpose epoxy that happens to be used around food. It is specifically formulated to comply with established regulations governing materials used in food-contact applications.
FDA 21 CFR 175.105 covers adhesives used as components of articles associated with packaging, transporting or holding food under prescribed conditions. FDA 21 CFR 175.300 covers qualifying resinous and polymeric materials used as food-contact coatings under specified conditions.
ET5162 is also EU 10/2011 compliant, providing an additional food-contact compliance standard for applicable European applications.
In practical terms, this makes ET5162 an excellent choice for properly designed applications involving food-processing equipment, food-handling machinery, stainless steel assemblies and related equipment where food-contact compliance matters.
Important: FDA compliance does not mean uncured epoxy is edible or suitable for unrestricted contact with food. The adhesive should be correctly mixed, properly applied and fully cured, and the finished assembly must be used within the conditions covered by the applicable food-contact regulations.

Cure Faster with Heat
ET5162 can cure entirely at room temperature, but controlled heat can significantly accelerate the process. At approximately 60°C / 140°F, functional strength can be reached in roughly 30 minutes, with full cure in approximately 1 hour.
Permabond's testing also shows that curing at elevated temperature improves crosslinking and can produce higher final bond strength compared with room-temperature curing.
Application Tips
For best results:
-
Make sure both bonding surfaces are clean, dry and grease-free.
-
Abrade metal surfaces where appropriate to remove oxidation and increase mechanical adhesion.
-
Dispense the two components through the appropriate static mixing nozzle.
-
Apply the mixed adhesive to one bonding surface while minimizing trapped air.
-
Join the components and apply enough pressure to spread the epoxy across the entire bonding area.
-
Clamp or fixture the assembly so the parts cannot move while curing.
-
Leave the bond undisturbed until sufficient cure has been achieved.

Popular Use Cases for Permabond ET5162
Permabond ET5162 is especially well suited for stainless steel bonding in food-contact environments, but its ability to bond steel, aluminum, and composites makes it useful across a wide range of professional repair, fabrication, and assembly applications. It is formulated to comply with FDA 175.105, FDA 175.300, and EU 10/2011 food-contact regulations.
Food Processing Equipment
One of the most common uses for ET5162 is bonding and repairing components on food-processing and food-handling equipment. Its excellent adhesion to stainless steel makes it particularly useful for brackets, panels, housings, guards, fixtures, and other bonded assemblies where food-contact compliance is important.
Commercial Kitchen Equipment
ET5162 is a strong option for professional repairs and fabrication involving commercial kitchen equipment, including stainless steel work surfaces, equipment housings, shelving components, appliance parts, and other metal assemblies.
Stainless Steel Fabrication
Because ET5162 was developed primarily for bonding stainless steel, it is well suited for metal fabrication projects where welding, drilling, or mechanical fasteners may not be desirable. It can be used to bond panels, reinforcement pieces, brackets, trim, and other structural components.
Food & Beverage Manufacturing Equipment
ET5162 can be useful when assembling or repairing equipment used in food and beverage manufacturing environments, particularly applications involving stainless steel components where a strong adhesive bond and documented food-contact compliance are required.
Appliance & Equipment Repair
Its high shear strength and excellent temperature resistance make ET5162 a practical choice for professional appliance and equipment repairs. Once cured, it produces a hard, durable bond rated at approximately 80–90 Shore D.
Aluminum & Mixed-Material Assemblies
ET5162 isn't limited to stainless steel. It also bonds aluminum, steel, and composite materials, making it useful for equipment and assemblies where several different materials need to be joined together.
Gap-Filling Repairs
With a maximum recommended gap fill of approximately 2 mm / 0.08 in, ET5162 is useful when mating surfaces aren't perfectly flush. Its lightly thixotropic consistency also helps the adhesive stay in place during assembly.
Larger or More Complex Assemblies
ET5162 provides a relatively long 60–80 minute gel time at 73°F / 23°C, giving technicians more time to align, position, clamp, and adjust components before the adhesive begins to set. This makes it especially useful for larger parts or assemblies that require careful positioning.
Applications Exposed to Temperature Changes
ET5162 offers excellent temperature resistance and can withstand brief exposure to elevated temperatures, such as those encountered during certain paint-baking or wave-soldering processes, provided the bonded joint is not heavily stressed. The cured adhesive can also tolerate temperatures down to approximately -67°F / -55°C, depending on the materials being bonded.
Ideal for: food-processing equipment • commercial kitchens • stainless steel fabrication • food and beverage equipment • appliance repair • aluminum assemblies • composite bonding • gap-filling repairs • professional equipment maintenance
