Permabond ET5147 is a professional-grade, two-part structural epoxy designed for demanding bonding and sealing applications, including equipment and assemblies used around food. Its toughened formula combines high shear and peel strength, excellent impact resistance, gap-filling capability, and resistance to water, food, cleaning fluids, and heat.

ET5147 is formulated to meet the requirements of FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and 175.300, making it an excellent choice for properly designed food-contact equipment, appliances, and processing applications where an ordinary industrial epoxy may not be appropriate.

With a comfortable 40–60 minute working time, ET5147 gives you plenty of time to position and align parts before cure. Once cured, it forms a strong, rigid, non-porous bond that stands up to vibration, moisture, cleaning, and demanding service environments.

Why Choose Permabond ET5147?

  • FDA-compliant formulation – Meets the requirements of FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and 175.300

  • Designed for food-contact equipment – Ideal for bonding and sealing components used in food-processing equipment and appliances

  • High structural strength – Up to approximately 2,900 PSI shear strength on mild steel

  • Excellent impact and vibration resistance – Toughened epoxy chemistry helps the bond withstand demanding service conditions

  • Extended 40–60 minute working time – Provides time for careful positioning, assembly, and larger bonding jobs

  • Handles temperatures up to 250°F – Manufacturer-rated temperature range from -40°F to 250°F

  • Bonds multiple materials – Suitable for metals, wood, composites, and certain plastics

  • Gap filling up to 0.08 in. / 2 mm – Helps compensate for imperfectly matched surfaces

  • Thixotropic, non-sag consistency – Stays where it is applied and works well on vertical or irregular surfaces

  • Room-temperature cure – No oven or specialized curing equipment required

  • Heat-accelerated curing available – Working strength can be achieved significantly faster when appropriate heat is applied

  • Durable around moisture and cleaning – Excellent resistance to water, food, cleaning fluids, and environmental exposure

Food-Contact Compliance – What Does It Mean?

Permabond ET5147 has been specifically formulated to meet the requirements of FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and FDA 21 CFR 175.300.

For the customer, this means ET5147 can be considered for bonding and sealing food-contact equipment, appliances, and related assemblies when the fully cured adhesive is used in accordance with the applicable FDA regulations, but it is NOT intended for direct and frequent contact with food.

This makes ET5147 particularly useful when repairing, assembling, or manufacturing equipment where the finished adhesive joint may be used in a food-processing or food-handling environment.

Important Food-Safety Distinction

“Food grade” does not mean the uncured epoxy can touch food or that the product is intended to be eaten, used as a food additive, or applied directly onto food.

The FDA compliance applies to the properly mixed and fully cured adhesive used as part of an appropriate food-contact article or assembly. The finished application should still be evaluated for its specific food type, temperature, cleaning process, and operating conditions.

This is particularly important in commercial and industrial food-processing applications where the finished equipment must meet additional sanitation or regulatory requirements.

Ideal Applications

ET5147 is an excellent choice for food-processing and general industrial applications requiring a durable structural bond. Typical applications include food-contact equipment and appliance assembly, stainless-steel and metal fabrication, equipment repair, composite bonding, wood bonding, machinery components, housings, fixtures, and applications subject to vibration, moisture, cleaning, or elevated temperatures.

How to Use

Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of grease before bonding. Metals such as aluminum and copper may benefit from light abrasion before application.

When using a dual cartridge, load the cartridge into the appropriate dispenser, remove the cap, and dispense a small amount until material is flowing evenly from both sides. Install the correct static mixing nozzle and dispense the mixed epoxy.

Apply ET5147 to one of the bonding surfaces and assemble the parts within the 40–60 minute working time. Clamp or otherwise hold the assembly in position until adequate handling strength has developed.

Full cure is typically reached in approximately 72 hours at room temperature. Heat may be used to accelerate the cure when suitable for the bonded materials.
