Plexus MA310 is a two-part methacrylate (MMA) structural adhesive for bonding thermoplastics, metals and composites. It mixes 1:1, dispenses as a non-sag gel and cures at room temperature. It stays where you put it on vertical joints and fills gaps up to 1/8 in.
You get 15 to 18 minutes of working time and fixture strength in 45 to 55 minutes. That is enough time to position larger parts, clamp them and walk away. Cured bonds reach 3,000 to 3,500 psi lap shear and hold from -67°F to 250°F.
Typical Properties
| Chemistry | Two-part methacrylate (MMA) |
| Mix ratio | 1:1 by volume and by weight |
| Working time | 15 to 18 minutes at 74°F |
| Fixture time | 45 to 55 minutes at 74°F |
| Gap fill | 0.03 to 0.125 in. (0.75 to 3.2 mm) |
| Operating temperature | -67°F to 250°F (-55°C to 121°C) |
| Lap shear (ASTM D1002) | 3,000 to 3,500 psi at 0.03 in. gap |
| Tensile strength (ASTM D638) | 3,500 to 4,500 psi |
| Tensile modulus | 150,000 to 175,000 psi |
| Elongation at break | 5 to 15% |
| Viscosity (each side) | 40,000 to 70,000 cP, non-sag gel |
| Color | Off-white adhesive, yellow activator |
| Mixed density | 8.0 lbs/gal (1.00 g/cc) |
| VOC during cure | Less than 1% (under 10 g/L) |
What It Bonds
- ABS, acrylic (PMMA), PVC and styrenics
- Polyesters (including DCPD modified), vinyl esters and general urethanes
- FRP, fiberglass and gelcoats
- Aluminum, carbon steel and stainless steel (Plexus primer suggested)
Metal bonds used outdoors need a coating or primer that keeps the metal from oxidizing. Test MA310 on your actual parts and service conditions before production use.
Chemical Resistance
Holds up well to: hydrocarbons, acids and bases in the pH 3 to 10 range, and salt solutions.
Not recommended for: polar solvents, strong acids and strong bases.
Application Tips
- Work between 65°F and 85°F for a normal cure. Colder shops slow the cure. Hotter shops speed it up.
- Mate and clamp parts within the working time, then leave them undisturbed until fixture time.
- Dispense only what you can use within the working time. Large mixed masses build heat fast and can release trapped air and vapor.
- Keep bond gaps at or under 0.125 in.
- Clean up uncured adhesive with a citrus terpene cleaner or soap and water. Cured adhesive has to be scraped off.
Shelf Life, Storage and Our Shelf Life Options
MA310 cartridges carry a 7 month shelf life when stored between 54°F and 74°F. Long periods above 74°F shorten it, and exposure above 98°F quickly reduces reactivity. Never freeze it.
- Fresh Batch: our newest stock, with the most shelf life remaining.
- Short Shelf Life: 1 to 3 months left before the expiration date. Good value if you will use it soon.
- Recently Expired: past the printed date and sold as-is at a deep discount. Best for testing, prototypes and non-critical work. Run a test bond before relying on it.
Safety and Shipping
Both parts are flammable (flash point about 51°F) and contain methacrylate esters. Use with good ventilation, wear gloves and safety glasses, and keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. MA310 ships as a Limited Quantity flammable liquid (UN1133, Class 3), which can limit expedited air shipping options. SDS available on request.
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including acrylonitrile, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
