Known backups / known substitutes
- Permabond TA459 with Initiator 41: A structural acrylic adhesive for bonding metals, ferrites, ceramics, and some thermoplastics.- Permabond TA4810: A 2-part, 1:1 toughened methacrylate adhesive for bonding thermoplastics, thermosets, metals, and composites.- Loctite 330: A general-purpose structural acrylic adhesive, often considered a comparable product in the market.
Comparison Note
Permabond TA4246 stands out as a no-mix, room temperature curing structural acrylic adhesive, offering a balance of high strength, excellent impact resistance, and good chemical durability. While other structural acrylics like Permabond TA459 and TA4810 exist with similar chemistries, TA4246's specific no-mix application and performance profile make it particularly suitable for applications where replacing mechanical fasteners like rivets or welding is desired for a more lightweight and aesthetically pleasing assembly. Its medium set time (15-30 min working strength) provides a good balance between rapid assembly and sufficient adjustment time.
