SciGrip SG200 High Strength Toughened 10, 20 & 40 min Off-White White 490ml 10:1 MMA Methacrylate Adhesive
Brief Description
SCIGRIP® SG200 Series Methacrylate Adhesives are high-performance, two-component structural adhesives with a 10:1 mix ratio, engineered for robust bonding of composites, thermoplastics, and metals. Available with varying working times of 10, 20, or 40 minutes, this off-white, toughened MMA adhesive provides exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to environmental factors, making it a versatile solution for demanding industrial applications.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding in marine vessels, including fiberglass and composite components.- Assembly of panels, brackets, and metal bonding in automotive and transportation industries.- General plastic bonding applications.- Joining aluminum, steel, and powder-coated parts in metal fabrication.- Bonding acrylic panels, frames, and metal supports for signage and displays.- Construction applications for bonding metal and other materials.- Bonding magnets for electric motors and loudspeakers.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Fabrication- General Manufacturing- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Sign & Display- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- **Toughened Formulation:** Provides excellent fatigue, impact, and shock load resistance, ensuring durable bonds.- **Variable Working Times:** Offers choices of 10, 20, and 40 minutes to suit different application and process requirements, allowing for flexibility in assembly.- **Minimal Surface Preparation:** Often requires less extensive surface preparation compared to other structural adhesives, reducing labor and production cycle times.- **Non-Sag Application:** Facilitates application on non-level or vertical surfaces without dripping or running.- **Bonds Dissimilar Materials:** Capable of creating strong bonds between different substrates like flexible plastic and rigid metal.- **Rapid Cure at Room Temperature:** Achieves quick strength development without the need for external heat.
Key Properties
- **Adhesive Type:** Two-component MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) structural adhesive.- **Mix Ratio:** 10:1 by volume.- **Color:** Off-White.- **Working Times:** Available in 10, 20, and 40-minute versions (e.g., SG200-10: 8-12 min; SG200-20: 17-22 min; SG200-40: 35-45 min).- **Fixture Times:** Varies by version (e.g., SG200-10: 25-30 min; SG200-20: 35-42 min; SG200-40: 80-90 min).- **Tensile Strength:** 2,500 - 3,000 psi (17.2 - 21 MPa).- **Shear Strength:** 2,200 - 2,500 psi (15 - 17 MPa).- **Maximum Tensile Elongation:** 60 - 100%.- **Gap Fill:** 0.02 - 0.5 inches (0.50 - 12.7 mm).- **Environmental Resistance:** Excellent resistance to environmental factors and solvents.- **Service Temperature:** -40 to 180°F (-40 to 82°C).
Surface Compatibility
- **Metals:** Aluminum, Coated/Painted Metals, Sheet Metal, Stainless Steel, Cold Rolled Steel. (Note: Metal primer, such as MP100, is strongly recommended for stainless steel and aluminum bonding for maximum strength).- **Thermoplastics:** Acrylic, ABS, Vinyls (PVC).- **Composites:** Fiberglass, Gelcoats, RTM, RTM Light, Vinylester, Polyester, Epoxy.- **Other:** Magnets, wood, ceramic.- **Not Generally Bondable:** Polyolefins, thermoplastic polyesters, fluorocarbon plastics, and other low surface energy plastics without specialized formulations.
Known backups / known substitutes
- **Other MMA Adhesives:** Products like Infinity Bond MMA series (e.g., MMA 1025) or Easy-Mix RK series (e.g., RK-7000, RK-7100) offer similar high-strength, fast-curing methacrylate adhesive properties.- **Epoxy Adhesives:** While also structural adhesives, epoxies generally offer higher ultimate strength, superior heat, and chemical resistance, but typically have longer cure times and require more extensive surface preparation.- **Polyurethane Adhesives:** Provide flexible bonds with good water and chemical resistance, often used in marine and outdoor applications. However, MMAs generally offer higher bond strength on a broader range of materials and faster cure times.
Comparison Note
SciGrip SG200, as an MMA adhesive, stands out for its combination of high structural strength, rapid room-temperature cure, and tolerance for minimal surface preparation, often serving as an efficient alternative to welding or riveting. While epoxies may offer higher heat and chemical resistance and potentially greater ultimate strength, they typically demand more rigorous surface preparation and longer cure cycles. Polyurethane adhesives provide flexibility and good environmental resistance, but MMAs generally achieve faster strength development and broader material compatibility, especially with various plastics and metals. The SG200 series' choice of working times further enhances its versatility for different production speeds and assembly complexities.
