3M ScotchWeld DP2216 (duo-pak cartridges) & 2216 (pails) B/A Gray High Performance Flexible Cryogenic Cold-Resistant Shock-Resistant Gray 90 Minute Setting Epoxy Adhesive is a multipurpose, two-component, room temperature curing Epoxy adhesive of excellent strength, cryogenic-level cold-resistance, vibration-resistance, and shock-resistance. It is an excellent bonder for steel (ferrous and stainless), aluminum, many types of plastics, rubbers, woods, stone, concrete, masonry, and ceramics. Works in a mix ratio of 2:3, and delivers exceptional performance with a shear strength of 3200 psi and peel strength of 25 piw.
Scotch-Weld epoxy adhesive DP2216 (duo-pak cartridges) & 2216 (pails) B/A Gray is identical to 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Aerospace Epoxy Adhesive EC-2216 B/A in chemical composition. The difference is that Scotch-Weld epoxy adhesive EC-2216 B/A Gray has been labeled, packaged, tested, and certified for aircraft and aerospace applications. The non-aerospace rated 2216 B/A may be used for aircraft and aerospace applications if proper Certificates of Test have been issued and material meets all aircraft manufacturer’s specification requirements.

3M Scotch-Weld 2216 is a flexible, two-part epoxy adhesive known for its exceptional performance in extreme conditions, particularly its ability to maintain high peel and shear strength at very low temperatures. Its long work life and flexible cure make it ideal for bonding dissimilar surfaces and applications requiring high shock and vibration resistance. This adhesive is the same formula whether sold in bulk cans (as EC-2216 or 2216 B/A) or in Duo-Pak cartridges (DP2216).
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding panels, brackets, and components in aircraft and aerospace manufacturing.
- Applications requiring performance at cryogenic temperatures, such as in scientific instruments or liquefied gas systems.
- Bonding dissimilar materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion (e.g., metal to plastic).
- Potting and encapsulating electronic components that are sensitive to shock and thermal cycling.
- General industrial bonding where flexibility and high environmental resistance are critical.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace and Aviation
- Defense and Military
- Specialty Vehicle and Transportation
- Electronics and Scientific Instrumentation
- General Industrial and Metalworking
Special and Unique Features
- Outstanding performance at low temperatures, retaining flexibility and strength down to -423 F (-253 C).
- High peel strength and flexibility provide excellent shock, vibration, and impact resistance.
- The long work life (90 minutes) allows ample time for positioning and adjusting large or complex parts.
- Available in various packaging, including Duo-Pak cartridges (DP2216) for easy metered dispensing.
- Good resistance to weathering and aging.

Known backups / known substitutes for this product
- 3M Scotch-Weld EC-2216 (bulk version of the same product)
- Loctite EA 9309.3NA AERO (Hysol EA 9309)
- Huntsman Araldite 2011
Comparison Note
- The 3M adhesive formula 2216 is sold under different product numbers based on its packaging. DP2216 refers to the Duo-Pak cartridge system for easy application with a dispensing gun, while EC-2216 or 2216 B/A refers to the same adhesive supplied in bulk cans. Functionally, it competes with other tough, flexible epoxies like Loctite EA 9309, but 2216's defining characteristic is its superior performance and flexibility in cryogenic conditions.
