The piston insertion tool for 400ml and C-Series Sulzer MixPac cartridges makes installing & sealing the pistons easy and standardized, and is a crucial step after filling operations are complete.
Part Number: PIDQ_0400-01-01
Works with Atlas Professional 400ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part empty cartridges, and Sulzer's C-Series 400ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part empty cartridges.
Compatible with MixPac cartridge: AC 400-01-10-01 (103721)
There is a single piston insertion tool that fits both barrels of the 400 ml 1:1 cartridges.
How it works: Four easy steps.
Installing pistons with the insertion tool is super easy once you understand how the piston is built and how to use the insertion tool.
The Pistons are the next generation of piston technology, incorporating a diaphragm instead of a push-pin. The Insertion Tool opens the diaphragm up so air can release during installation.
- Notice that the insertion tool has a bump or button on the top side. This button is very important, and is used to both hold the piston in place AND push/keep the air release diaphragm open during insertion/installation.
- Place the piston atop the insertion tool, so that the gray diaphragm side is facing up atop the tool and the hard plastic spokes side is facing down onto the tool. Make sure that the Insertion tool's button or bump fits inside the center hole/cavity of the piston, so that it helps keep the piston on the tool.
- Using the insertion tool, press the piston inside the back end of the cartridge and gently press it in. The 'bump' or 'button' on the tool keeps the Piston's air release valve/diaphragm open so that air can escape as the piston is pushed in.
- Finally, when the piston hits the adhesive or material, you will feel a gentle resistance, and stop. The piston automatically seals as soon as you remove the insertion tool. The piston is now installed, sealed, and air has been evacuated.
This video illustrates a cross section of how the Piston Insertion tool holds open the Piston to allow the trapped-in air to release out of the cartridge while the pistons are pressed/pushed down during the installation step.
Product Name
Piston Insertion Tool for 400 ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part cartridges - MixPac C-System (Atlas Professional and Sulzer C and J System compatible)
Brief Description
This tool is designed to efficiently and accurately insert pistons into empty 400 ml 1:1 ratio dual-barrel cartridges, specifically those compatible with MixPac C-System, Atlas Professional, and Sulzer C and J System cartridges. It ensures air-free piston seating, which is critical for precise, consistent, and leak-proof dispensing of two-part adhesives and sealants.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Preparing empty dual-barrel cartridges for filling with two-part adhesives and sealants.- Ensuring air-free piston insertion to prevent dispensing inaccuracies and material waste.- Standardizing the piston installation process in production environments.- Facilitating the packaging of bulk two-part materials into ready-to-use cartridges.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Chemical Industry (for packaging two-part adhesives and sealants)- General Manufacturing (for in-house cartridge filling and assembly operations)- Distributers & Resellers (for offering filled cartridges or selling empty cartridges with tools)- Industrial Supply (as part of dispensing equipment offerings)- Automotive Service/Repair (for specialized adhesive applications and potential cartridge refilling)- Construction/ Building Services (for preparing cartridges for sealants and adhesives in various projects)- Aerospace/Defense (for precise application of specialized two-part materials)- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle (for bonding and sealing in vehicle production and maintenance)- Marine (for adhesive and sealant applications in boat building and repair)- Metal Fabrication (for bonding and sealing metal components)- Plastic Fabrication (for bonding and sealing plastic components)- Prosumer (for serious DIYers or small professional workshops handling two-part materials)
Special and Unique Features
- Designed for 400 ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part cartridges, specifically MixPac C-System, Atlas Professional, and Sulzer C and J System.- Ensures air-free piston seating, which is crucial for consistent dispensing and preventing material waste.- Features a mechanism (e.g., a bump/button or hollow design) to open the piston's air release valve/diaphragm during insertion, allowing air to escape.- Standardizes the piston installation process, making it easy and repeatable.- Helps prevent cross-contamination of components before mixing.- Compact and rugged design for ease of use and transport (for similar tools).
Key Properties
- Compatibility: Designed for 400 ml 1:1 ratio dual-barrel cartridges (MixPac C-System, Atlas Professional, Sulzer C and J System).- Functionality: Facilitates air-free piston insertion and sealing.- Material: Typically made of durable materials for industrial use.- Operation: Manual, designed for ease of use.
Surface Compatibility
This tool does not directly interact with application surfaces. Its compatibility is with the internal components of the specified 2-part adhesive cartridges, specifically the pistons and cartridge barrels.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Manual piston insertion without a dedicated tool (risks trapped air and inconsistent seating).- Automated or pneumatic piston inserters for higher volume production (e.g., Atlas 2K Piston Inserter for EFD cartridges).- Other specialized piston insertion tools designed for different cartridge systems or sizes.
Comparison Note
This specific piston insertion tool is tailored for 400 ml 1:1 ratio MixPac C-System (and compatible Atlas Professional and Sulzer C and J System) cartridges, offering a precise and air-free piston seating solution. While manual insertion is possible, this tool significantly improves efficiency, consistency, and reduces the risk of air entrapment, which is vital for the performance of two-part adhesives. Automated systems exist for very high-volume operations, but this manual tool provides a cost-effective and reliable solution for mid-volume or specialized applications.
