*The cure time depends on the power of the UV lamp, its spectral output, the distance between the lamp and the components, and the transmission characteristics of the substrates.
**LED UV lamps have a narrow range of spectral output. It is important to check suitability with Permabond in order to match the LED lamp’s peak wavelength with that of the adhesive’s photoinitiator to ensure optimal adhesive cure.

Brief Description
Permabond UV630 is a single-part, fast-setting, low viscosity, UV-curable adhesive specifically formulated as a medical-grade solution for bonding clear plastics and clear glass. It is known for its high shear strength, excellent elongation, and impact resistance, making it suitable for demanding applications.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding clear plastics such as polycarbonate, acrylic, and clear PVC.- Bonding clear glass.- Assembly of medical devices, including connectors, clamps, needle bonding, reservoirs, catheters, and transducers.- Applications involving substrates with differing coefficients of thermal expansion due to its flexibility and stress-absorbing properties.- Wicking into small cracks and crevices for precise bonding.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Medical Device/ Prosthetics- Plastic Fabrication- General Manufacturing- LED/Electronics (for curing equipment and integration in electronic medical devices)
Special and Unique Features
- Medical Grade / Medical Device Approved, compliant with ISO 10993-5 Cytotoxicity standards.- Cures on demand upon exposure to UV light, allowing for precise control over assembly time.- Dries to a high-clear, UV-resistant finish.- Low viscosity and high-flowability enable it to wick into small gaps and intricate designs.- Formulated as 100% solids with no solvents, contributing to reduced environmental impact and minimal shrinkage.- Offers high shear strength, excellent elongation, and impact resistance for durable bonds.- Achieves fast curing even with low-power UV lamps.- Capable of withstanding brief exposures to higher temperatures, such as during paint baking or wave soldering processes.- Flexible and stress-absorbing, making it ideal for bonding dissimilar substrates.
Key Properties
- Chemical composition: Methacrylate ester.- Appearance: Colourless, clear liquid.- Viscosity @ 25°C: 200-300 mPa.s (cP).- Specific gravity: 1.1.- Typical fixture time: 2-10 seconds, depending on UV lamp power and spectral output.- Cure wavelength: 365 - 420 nm.- Overlap shear strength (Polycarbonate): >9 N/mm² (>1300 psi).- Tensile strength: 14 N/mm² (2000 psi).- Elongation at break: 110%.- Hardness: 60 Shore D.- Refractive index: >1.490.- Temperature resistance (cured adhesive): -55°C to +120°C (-67°F to +250°F).
Surface Compatibility
- Clear plastics: Excellent adhesion to polycarbonate, acrylic, clear PVC, ABS, Nylon, Phenolic, and Polyamide.- Clear glass.- Can also bond to various metals (e.g., mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum) and metallized plastics, provided one substrate is transparent to UV light.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other Permabond UV-curable adhesives, such as UV632 (optimized for acrylic), UV640 (higher viscosity version of UV630), or UV670 (for metals and metallized plastics).- Medical-grade UV-curable adhesives from other manufacturers like Henkel (Loctite), Dymax, or Incure (e.g., Cyro-Weld™ series).- Medical-grade cyanoacrylate (instant) adhesives for fast, ambient temperature curing.- Medical-grade epoxy adhesives (heat-curing or UV-curing epoxy) for high chemical and thermal resistance.- Medical-grade silicone adhesives for flexibility and extreme temperature resistance.- Structural acrylic adhesives (MMAs) for high strength on plastics.
Comparison Note
Permabond UV630 offers significant advantages over traditional adhesives by providing rapid, on-demand curing in seconds, eliminating the lengthy cure times and extensive fixturing often required by two-part epoxies or solvent-based systems. Its formulation as 100% solids ensures no solvents are released, reducing environmental impact and minimizing shrinkage in the final assembly. The adhesive's high optical clarity results in nearly invisible bond lines, which is often superior to other adhesive types that may leave a visible tint. Furthermore, its inherent flexibility and stress-absorbing characteristics make it particularly effective for bonding dissimilar substrates with varying thermal expansion rates, a common challenge where more rigid adhesives might fail. Being a certified medical-grade adhesive (ISO 10993-5 Cytotoxicity), it meets stringent biocompatibility requirements essential for medical device manufacturing.
