Permabond TA4605 is a two-component, 1:1 toughened methacrylate adhesive engineered specifically for polyolefin bonding and low surface energy adhesion without primers or surface treatment. Designed for difficult plastics such as PE and PP, this thick, non-sag gel formulation enables reliable primerless bonding in demanding plastic assembly applications.

Supplied as an off-white 50 mL kit with a 1:1 mix ratio by volume, TA4605 provides fast set time, controlled gap filling, and dependable joint performance across low-energy plastics, composites, and metals.

TA4605 is particularly effective on traditionally hard-to-bond materials, including PE, HDPE, LDPE, UHMW, PP, PPCO, PPHO, COPP, HOPP, PTFE, Teflon, and natural or synthetic rubbers. It also bonds ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, PA6, PET-G, composites, FRP, GRP, carbon fiber, E-coated surfaces, and most metals.

TA4605 is also a substitute/backup formula for these formulas:

  • 3M DP8005

  • 3M DP8010

  • Scigrip SG400 LSE

TA4605 is a part of a 4-formula Family:

Application & Handling

  • Thick, thixotropic, non-sag gel consistency

  • Controlled bond line thickness via microparticles

  • Primerless bonding, no flame or plasma treatment required

  • Engineered for low surface energy adhesion

Cure & Performance

  • Fast set time: 5–10 minutes

  • Room temperature cure

  • High impact and shear strength

  • Chemical resistance suitable for industrial environments

  • Designed for structural-grade plastic assembly

  • An alternative to certain structural cyanoacrylate applications requiring greater toughness

Before application, ensure all bonding surfaces are clean, dry, and free of grease; wipe with isopropyl alcohol if necessary to remove contaminants.

To apply, use a static mixer, dispense a thin, even bead of mixed adhesive onto one surface, then assemble the components promptly and maintain firm clamping pressure until handling strength is achieved.

To prevent sticky residue, remove excess material before curing and avoid leaving large exposed beads.

If the adhesive appears slow to grab, verify surface cleanliness and confirm that the correct grade is being used.

Note, because TA4605 cures best within confined joints where oxygen exposure is limited, adhesive that remains exposed to air may stay tacky or show surface crystallization. This is a normal characteristic and does not indicate bond failure.

Additionally, Proper clamping and full cure time are critical, as insufficient pressure or stressing the joint before 24 hours at 23°C can result in reduced bond strength or joint failure. The product will not cure below 50°F (10°C), so both the adhesive and substrates must be maintained above this temperature throughout the curing process.

Application Instructions

1.  Surface Prep: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and grease-free. Use Isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) wipe if necessary.

2.  Mixing & Dispensing: Use a static mixer to apply a thin, even bead of mixed adhesive.

3.  Assembly & Clamping: Press parts firmly and maintain pressure until handling strength is achieved.

4.  Curing Notes: Adhesive cures best inside joints (anaerobic). Adhesive exposed to air may remain tacky for an extended time (not a defect, just a characteristic, it will eventually lose it's tackness). Remove excess before curing.

Avoiding Common Issues

Leaving large beads ® sticky residue.

One side exposed to air tacky, sticky surface. or crystalization or crystal-like curing

Not clamping long enough ® weak bond.

Stressing before full cure ® joint failure.

Always allow full cure before loading.

Troubleshooting

Still tacky? Exposed to air, not a bond failure, allow it to keep curing, can take a while to lose tackiness.

Crystallization? Exposed to air, not a bond failure, allow it to keep curing, can take a while to lose tackiness.

Slow to grab? Possibly TA4610 (longer cure) or surface contamination.

Joint failed? Likely due to early stress or insufficient clamping.

Note: This product will NOT set in temperatures below 50F (10C) Make sure to keep the material warm throughout the curing process.
