Product Name
PERMABOND HH190 ANAEROBIC ADHESIVE GASKETMAKER PURPLE TUBE
Brief Description
Permabond HH190 is a purple, anaerobic curing flange sealant and gasketmaker designed to replace or be used as a dressing for conventional pre-cut gaskets. This flowable paste conforms to the shape of the flange, allowing metal-to-metal contact while filling irregularities. It provides uniform stress distribution, eliminates the need for re-torquing, and offers excellent shock and vibration resistance. It forms a tough, durable, and leak-free seal capable of withstanding high pressure.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Sealing flanges in various mechanical assemblies.- Replacing traditional pre-cut gaskets made of cork, wood, rubber, paper, or silicone.- Creating form-in-place gaskets for irregular surfaces.- Applications requiring uniform stress distribution across mating surfaces.- Sealing components exposed to shock and vibration.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Chemical Industry- Construction/ Building Services- Energy- Engineering Services- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- Industrial Supply- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Anaerobic curing mechanism, activating in the absence of air and presence of metal.- Replaces or acts as a dressing for conventional pre-cut gaskets.- Flowable paste consistency that conforms to flange shapes and fills surface irregularities.- Allows for metal-to-metal contact of flanges, ensuring uniform stress distribution.- Eliminates the need for re-torquing bolts due to no relaxation or shrinkage.- Provides an instant pressure seal, depending on gap and flange width.- Forms a tough, durable seal capable of withstanding up to 5000 psi after full cure.- Offers excellent shock and vibration resistance.- Can be conveniently dismantled with normal tools if necessary.- Non-flammable formulation.- No shimming effects, leading to better load transmission.- Achieves 100% surface contact for superior sealing.- Seals rough surfaces, potentially reducing machining requirements.- Exhibits excellent oil and water resistance.- Cures at room temperature when confined between metal surfaces.
Key Properties
- Chemical Composition: Acrylic- Appearance: Purple- Viscosity @ 25°C: 300,000 mPa.s (cP) (Flowable Paste)- Specific Gravity: 1.1- UV Fluorescence: No- Maximum Gap Fill: 0.3mm (0.012")- Handling Strength (M10 steel) @23°C: 15 minutes- Full Strength (M10 steel) @23°C: 24 hours- Torque Strength (M10 steel ISO10964) Break: 10 N·m (90 in.lb)- Torque Strength (M10 steel ISO10964) Prevail: 6 N·m (50 in.lb)- Shear Strength (steel collar & pin ISO10123): 6 MPa (900 psi)- Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 90 x 10^-6 mm/mm/°K- Dielectric Strength: 11 kV/mm- Thermal Conductivity: 0.19 W/(m.K)- Instant Seal (5 mil gap): >75 psi- Full Seal (10 mil gap): >5000 psi- Service Temperature Range: -53.9 °C to 121 °C (-65 °F to 250 °F)
Surface Compatibility
- Primarily designed for use on metal surfaces, including both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.- Optimal results are achieved on clean, dry, and grease-free surfaces.- Roughened surfaces (approximately 25μm) generally yield higher bond strengths.- Cure speed can be influenced by the type of metal: copper and its alloys accelerate curing, while oxidized or passivated surfaces like stainless steel may reduce it.- Permabond activators (e.g., A905 or ASC10) can be used to enhance cure speed, especially on inactive metal surfaces such as zinc, aluminum, and stainless steel.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Permabond MH196 (fast-setting, high-temperature resistant, red gasketmaker).- Permabond LH197 (low strength, flexible, easy to remove, green gasketmaker).- Permabond MH199 (highly thixotropic, high-temperature resistant, red gasketmaker).- Loctite 5699 Grey High Performance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker (mentioned as an alternative).- Conventional pre-cut gaskets (which HH190 is designed to replace or dress).
Comparison Note
Permabond HH190 offers significant advantages over traditional pre-cut gaskets by providing 100% contact between metal parts, which leads to uniform stress distribution and eliminates the need for re-tightening due to material relaxation or shrinkage. Unlike pre-cut gaskets, it can seal rough surfaces, potentially reducing machining requirements. Its anaerobic curing ensures a vibration-proof seal without long-term embrittlement, yet it remains easy to dismantle with normal tools when necessary.
