PERMABOND ET5428 Medium Set 10 - 20 min Two Component Epoxy Cream Cartridges & Accessories
Brief Description
PERMABOND ET5428 is a thixotropic, two-part structural epoxy adhesive known for its high strength, toughness, and excellent resistance to impact and vibration. It features a medium set time, with a usable pot life of 10-20 minutes, and is specifically formulated for robust bonding across a wide range of materials, particularly composite assemblies.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding composite materials, including carbon fiber, GRP, and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic).- Structural bonding of various metals such as mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, copper, and brass.- Adhering ceramics and a wide range of plastics, including difficult-to-bond filled plastics like PEEK and PA6.- Gap filling applications, accommodating gaps up to 5mm (0.2 inches).- Applications requiring high shear and peel strength, along with exceptional resistance to impact and vibration.- Used in demanding sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and marine for structural components and repairs.- Potting and encapsulating sensitive electronic components.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Electrical Services or Products- Engineering Services- Fabrication- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- Marine- Medical Device/ Prosthetics- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Thixotropic properties ensure controlled flow, allowing for precise application on vertical or overhead surfaces without sagging.- A two-part adhesive system, consisting of a resin and hardener, which are mixed just before use to initiate curing.- Medium set time with a usable pot life of 10-20 minutes, enabling efficient assembly processes.- Delivers very high shear and peel strength, contributing to robust and durable bonds.- Offers exceptional resistance to impact and vibration, making it suitable for dynamic applications.- Exhibits high temperature resistance, performing well even at elevated temperatures and retaining significant strength up to 105°C.- Available in cream (and charcoal/black) to match FRP and carbon fiber substrates for aesthetic integration.- Capable of bonding challenging filled plastics such as PEEK.
Key Properties
- Mix ratio: 2:1 by volume, 2:1 by weight.- Maximum gap fill: 5mm (0.2").- Usable / pot life @23°C (10g mixed): 10-20 minutes.- Handling time @23°C: 30-45 minutes.- Full cure @23°C: 24-48 hours (2 days).- Shear strength (mild steel): 28-34 N/mm² (4060-4930psi).- Peel strength (aluminum): 150-250 N/25mm (33-55 PIW).- Impact strength (ASTM D-950): 30-40 KJ/m².- Hardness (ISO868): 65-75 Shore D.- Glass transition temperature (Tg): 50-60°C (122-140°F).- Operating temperature range: -40°C to 155°C (for brief periods).- Excellent chemical resistance to fuels, solvents, dilute acids, and alkalies.- Waterproof and weatherproof once cured.- Possesses excellent electrical insulation properties.
