PERMABOND ET5145 is a 1:1 mixable epoxy adhesive. It has excellent resistance to impact and vibration and is ideal for structural bonding of metal, wood, composites and certain plastics. ET5145 is high strength and has excellent environmental durability. It is suitable for applications where cured product may incidentally come into contact with food or beverage, however it is not intended to be used in a situation where it is in constant contact with food or beverage. For example, it should not be used to repair a broken coffee mug or food plate.
Substitute for Loctite 2046, which has been discontinued
Permabond ET5145 meets a few regulatory specs:
1) Food Grade FDA Approved, CFR 175.105 and CFR 175.300
2) Plastics Regulation 10/2011, a sub-section of the European Framework Regulation EU 1935/2004
Caution: While this product is considered food grade, it is only suitable for applications where cured product may incidentally come into contact with food or beverage, but it is not intended to be used in a situation where it is in constant contact with food or beverage. For example, it should not be used to repair a broken coffee mug or food plate.

Product Name
Permabond ET5145 Slow Set 50 - 80 min Food Grade Epoxy Gray Thick Gel
Brief Description
Permabond ET5145 is a two-part, 1:1 mixable, high-strength epoxy adhesive. It is specifically formulated with FDA-approved raw materials, complying with FDA 175.105 and 175.300, as well as European Framework Regulation EU 1935/2004 and EU Plastics Regulation 10/2011. This thick, gray gel epoxy is designed for structural bonding and sealing applications where the cured product may incidentally come into contact with food or beverages. It offers excellent environmental durability, impact, and vibration resistance.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding of various materials in food processing equipment.- Sealing components in food contact equipment and appliances.- Filter bonding in the food processing industry, including mesh screens and potting pleated filter media.- General industrial bonding where incidental food contact compliance is required.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Food & Beverage Company or Distributor- General Manufacturing- Metal Fabrication- Engineering Services- Distributers & Resellers
Special and Unique Features
- FDA Compliant formulation (CFR 175.105 and 175.300).- EU 1935/2004 and EU Plastics Regulation 10/2011 compliant.- Slow set time with a pot life of 50-80 minutes, allowing for repositioning and extended assembly time.- Thick gel consistency, ideal for gap filling and non-sag applications.- High shear and peel strength for durable bonds.- Excellent resistance to impact and vibration.- Full cure at room temperature.- Excellent environmental durability.

Known backups / known substitutes
- Permabond ET5147: A similar food-grade epoxy from Permabond, offering higher temperature resistance and a faster set time.- Loctite 2046: Permabond ET5145 is a known substitute for the discontinued Loctite 2046.- AA-BOND FDA26, FDA15, FDA16: Other FDA-grade two-part epoxy adhesives available from different manufacturers.
Comparison Note
Permabond ET5145 is distinguished by its specific formulation for incidental food and beverage contact, meeting stringent FDA and EU regulations. Its slow set time (50-80 minutes pot life) provides a significant advantage for applications requiring precise alignment or extended assembly periods, differentiating it from faster-curing epoxies. The product's thick gel consistency is particularly beneficial for gap-filling applications where a non-sagging adhesive is crucial. It delivers a robust combination of high shear and peel strength, excellent impact and vibration resistance, and overall environmental durability, making it a reliable choice for demanding industrial environments where food safety compliance is paramount.
