Permabond LH051 Thread & Pipe Sealant with PTFE is specifically designed for those applications that require a good “bottoming-out” of pipe, fitting or plug. The added lubricity helps in seating the part even with an interference fit/ As such, it is used in heavy duty machinery e.g. compressors, hydraulics and construction equipment. When used on soft brass parts, the lubricity may be too high at times, thereby causing deformation of the part upon assembly. LH051 is also made flowable so that it can easily be applied with dispensing equipment. The particle size of the filler is very low, so that it can be used on most hydraulic systems without clogging hydraulic screens or valves. Permabond LH051 Pipe Sealant with PTFE provides an excellent replacement for pipe dopes and pipe tapes.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
-Easy to use and apply
-Directional freedom
-Does not contain solvents
-Excellent chemical and temperature resistance
-Cures at room temperature
-Will not shred, tear or cause blockages
Product Name
Permabond LH051 Anaerobic Thread & Pipe Sealant with PTFE
Brief Description
Permabond LH051 is an anaerobic thread and pipe sealant formulated with PTFE, specifically engineered to lock and seal metal threaded pipes, fittings, and plugs. It provides an instant low-pressure seal, prevents leaks, and offers added lubricity to facilitate the seating of parts, even with an interference fit. This product serves as an excellent replacement for traditional pipe dopes and pipe tapes.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Sealing metal threaded pipe joints, fittings, and plugs.- Used in heavy-duty machinery, compressors, hydraulics, and construction equipment.- Sealing pipes up to 1½ inches in diameter, and larger pipes with complete application around the circumference.- Sealing against a wide range of media including gas, LP gas, compressed air, gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, industrial fluids, CFC, water, steam, hydrocarbons, most acids, solvents, and glycol-based products.- Applications in pipework systems for fire protection, HVAC, and plumbing.- Preventing vibration loosening in assembled joints.- Replacing traditional pipe dopes and pipe tapes.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- Chemical Industry- Construction/ Building Services- Energy- Engineering Services- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- Industrial Supply- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Contains PTFE for enhanced lubricity, aiding in the easy seating of parts, even with interference fits.- Flowable consistency allows for easy application, including with dispensing equipment.- Features a very low particle size filler, ensuring it can be used in most hydraulic systems without clogging screens or valves.- Provides an immediate low-pressure seal, typically up to 1000 psi, upon assembly.- Cures anaerobically in the absence of air when confined between metal surfaces.- Does not contain solvents.- Offers excellent chemical and temperature resistance.- Cures at room temperature.- Will not shred, tear, or cause blockages in systems.- Allows for directional freedom during the assembly process.- Possesses low locking strength, which facilitates easy disassembly when required.
Key Properties
- **Type:** Anaerobic Thread & Pipe Sealant- **Chemistry:** Methacrylic resin (uncured material)- **Appearance:** White paste.- **Viscosity:** High viscosity / Pasty consistency.- **Temperature Resistance (Service):** -55°C to +150°C (continuous), with intermittent resistance up to 191°C (375°F) and a service temperature range up to +200°C.- **Flash Point:** >93°C (199.94°F), 100°C- **Cure Time:** Handling time typically 10-30 minutes at ambient conditions; full cure achieved in 24 hours at 23°C. Cure speed can be accelerated by copper and its alloys, while oxidized or passivated surfaces may reduce it. Activators like Permabond A905 or ASC10 can be used to reduce curing time.- **Pressure Resistance:** Provides an instant seal up to 1000 psi, with final cure strength typically exceeding the burst rating of the pipe itself.- **Chemical Resistance:** Forms a seal that is inert to water, steam, hydrocarbons, most acids, solvents, and glycol-based products.- **Strength:** Low to medium strength, designed to allow for disassembly using conventional hand tools.
Surface Compatibility
- Primarily designed for use on threaded metallic pipe joints.- Performs effectively on most metals, particularly steel and brass.- Not recommended for use on plastic components.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Traditional pipe dopes.- PTFE tapes (e.g., Teflon tape).- Other anaerobic pipe sealants with PTFE from various manufacturers (e.g., AST-SEAL™ Std, Loctite Pipe Sealant w/PTFE, Vitcas® Liquid PTFE).- Permabond LH050, a general-purpose pipe sealant with PTFE offering low locking strength.
Comparison Note
Permabond LH051 offers significant advantages over traditional pipe dopes and tapes by providing a more reliable, instant, and durable seal. It cures to form a solid plastic that resists vibration, chemical attack, and temperature extremes, while also lubricating for easier assembly and preventing clogging in hydraulic systems. Its engineered low locking strength ensures that joints can be disassembled when necessary, a key benefit over permanent locking compounds.
