Permabond 712 Cyanoacrylate Super Glue Instant Adhesive is specially designed to perform well underwater and in wet / moist applications. This is a rare feature among superglue formulas.
712 formula also has a high temperature resistance of up to 250F (120c), and excels underwater and in wet / humid locations. It bonds rapidly at room temperature and its viscosity is stable over the shelf life of the product.
The product adheres to a variety of surfaces including steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, Nylons, most plastics and elastomers.
Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Use a suitable solvent (such as acetone or isopropanol) for the degreasing of surfaces. Some metals such as aluminum, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer.
Product Name
Permabond 712 Instant Adhesive - Underwater, Wet & Hot High-Temp Applications
Brief Description
Permabond 712 is a low viscosity, solvent-free, water-resistant ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive. It is specifically formulated to provide outstanding adhesion and strength in challenging environments, including continuous underwater exposure, high humidity, and elevated temperatures. This unique adhesive offers rapid, room-temperature curing and maintains strong bonds on a variety of substrates even after prolonged exposure to harsh conditions.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Any application requiring continuous water exposure.- Bonding rubber seals and gaskets for pipes and valve seatings.- Automotive interiors.- Sports equipment.- Prosthetics and disability aids.- Jewelry and embellishments.- Household appliances like fridges and washing machines.- Bonding sensors to steel pipes in the oil & gas industry for corrosion monitoring.- General manufacturing processes requiring robust bonding in wet or hot conditions.- Electric motor tacking and bonding.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Artist, Artisan- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Electrical Services or Products- Energy- Engineering Services- Fabrication- General Manufacturing- LED/Electronics- Marine- Medical Device/ Prosthetics- Metal Fabrication- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services- Plastic Fabrication- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Sign & Display- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Outstanding resistance to continuous underwater exposure, a rare feature for cyanoacrylates.- Excellent thermal resistance, suitable for continuous use up to 120°C (150°C peak).- Passes stringent 85/85 automotive aging tests (85°C and 85% relative humidity for up to 1,000 hours), indicating high durability in tough environmental conditions.- Great resistance against attack and degradation from plasticizers and other additives found in many rubbers.- Solvent-free and 100% reactive.- Easy to use with no mixing or heat cure required.
Key Properties
- Chemical composition: Ethyl cyanoacrylate.- Appearance: Transparent.- Viscosity @ 25°C: Low, 100 mPa.s (cP).- Specific gravity: 1.1.- Maximum gap fill: 0.15mm (0.006").- Fast cure at room temperature (seconds).- High bond strength.- Excellent water and moisture resistance.- Withstands exposure to oils, most solvents, and chemicals.- Continuous use temperature range: -40°C to 120°C (150°C peak/intermittent).
Surface Compatibility
- Metals (e.g., mild steel, aluminum).- Plastics (e.g., ABS, Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6, Phenolic, PVC, PC).- Rubbers (e.g., Buna N, EPDM, SBR, NBR, silicone).- Composites.
Known backups / known substitutes
Permabond offers other cyanoacrylates with varying properties. Some comparable Permabond materials include:- Permabond 240: A single-component, high viscosity product for large gap applications, ideal for porous substrates.- Permabond 105: A low viscosity, high purity cyanoacrylate ideal for hard-to-bond plastics and rubbers like natural rubber, EPDM, and butyl rubber.- Permabond 801: A low viscosity modified ethyl cyanoacrylate for high-temperature resistance, fast setting with good adhesion to rubber, metal, and plastics.- Other general-purpose cyanoacrylates, though most do not offer the same level of water and heat resistance as 712.
Comparison Note
Permabond 712 stands out among cyanoacrylate adhesives due to its exceptional water, heat, and humidity resistance, a characteristic often lacking in conventional cyanoacrylates which are prone to weakening with prolonged exposure to moisture, especially in hot environments. Its ability to maintain significant bond strength during continuous underwater exposure and after passing rigorous automotive aging tests (85°C/85% RH) makes it a highly unique and reliable solution for demanding applications where other instant adhesives would fail.
