Product Name
Permabond 3D90 Instant Adhesive-Low Odour, low bloom 3D print infiltrant
Brief Description
Permabond 3D90 is an ultra-low viscosity, low odor, and low bloom alkoxyethyl cyanoacrylate infiltrant. It is specifically engineered to seal, strengthen, and brighten 3D printed models, particularly those produced via granular 3D printing methods. This solvent-free, single-component adhesive cures with moisture to provide a tack-free, clear, and colorless finish, enhancing the durability and appearance of 3D printed parts.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Sealing and strengthening porous 3D printed models.- Improving the durability and performance of 3D printed parts.- Brightening and enhancing the color vibrancy of white and colored 3D prints.- Filling voids and porosities within 3D printed structures.- Can be applied as an “on the spot” coating for small or delicate parts.- Suitable for dip bath applications for larger or more complex parts.- Post-processing of 3D printed objects to allow for subsequent bonding, sanding, or painting.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense (for prototyping and model finishing)- Artist, Artisan (for finishing 3D printed art and models)- Automotive Service/Repair (for prototyping and custom parts)- Colleges & Universities (for research, prototyping, and educational purposes in engineering and design)- Engineering Services (for prototyping, design, and product development)- General Manufacturing (as a post-processing solution for additive manufacturing)- Medical Device/ Prosthetics (for strengthening and finishing 3D printed medical models and prototypes)- Plastic Fabrication (for finishing and strengthening 3D printed plastic components)- Prosumer (for advanced hobbyists and small businesses utilizing 3D printing)
Special and Unique Features
- Ultra-low viscosity ensures maximum penetration into porous 3D printed parts.- Delayed set time allows for deeper infiltration before curing, leading to higher strength.- Low odor alkoxyethyl formulation provides a more comfortable working environment and is suitable for dip baths.- Low bloom (non-frosting) characteristic minimizes powdery white residue on finished surfaces, ensuring an aesthetically clean result.- Solvent-free formulation contributes to minimizing workplace hazards.- Single-component, moisture-cure system requires no mixing, UV lamps, or ovens for curing.- Cures to a clear, colorless, and tack-free finish, preserving or enhancing the original appearance of the part.- Improves printed part performance and durability significantly.
Key Properties
- Chemical Composition: Alkoxyethyl cyanoacrylate- Appearance: Clear, Colorless- Viscosity @ 25°C: Ultra-low, 4 mPa.s (cPs)- Cure Mechanism: Moisture cure- Handling Time: 10-15 seconds (Steel), 20-30 seconds (PVC, Phenolic, ABS)- Temperature Resistance: -55 to +82°C (-65 to +180°F)- Tensile Strength: 15 N/mm² (2200 psi)- Shear Strength (Steel): 16-20 N/mm²- Hardness: 85 Shore D- Impact Strength: 3-5 kJ/m²
Surface Compatibility
- 3D printed models produced via granular 3D printing methods.- Porous surfaces, allowing for deep penetration.- Suitable for both white and colored 3D printed parts.- Can also bond metals, plastics, and elastomers as a general adhesive.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Permabond 3D10 and 3D30 (other grades in the Permabond 3D series with varying cure speeds and viscosities).- Loctite 460 Low Odor-Low Bloom Instant Adhesive.- Loctite 455 Low Odor Low Bloom Gel.- Infinity Bond Low Odor and Low Bloom Cyanoacrylate Super Glue (various viscosities).- Vibra-Tite 360 Low Odor & Low Bloom Cyanoacrylate.- Krylex KI 001 cyanoacrylate adhesive for 3D printing.- Turbo Fuse Low Odor Alkoxy-Ethyl Cyanoacrylates.
Comparison Note
Permabond 3D90 stands out due to its specific formulation as an infiltrant for 3D printed parts, offering an ultra-low viscosity and a delayed cure speed for maximum penetration and superior strengthening. This differentiates it from many general-purpose cyanoacrylates primarily designed for bonding two components. Its low odor and low bloom characteristics are crucial for aesthetic applications and improved workplace comfort, minimizing the common issues of frosting and strong fumes associated with traditional cyanoacrylates.
