PERMABOND® 2050 is a flexible cyanoacrylate adhesive, exhibiting improved peel strengths when compared to other grades. It has excellent impact and vibration resistance, and is suitable for bonding dissimilar materials which could be subject to thermal shock or thermal cycling. 2050 is ideal for use on flexible or semiporous surfaces.
And can even bond thse difficult surfaces if the POP primer is applied first to the difficult surface side. (POP means Polyolefin Primer):
- POolypropylenes (PP, PPCO, PPHO),
- Polyethylenes (HDPE, MDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, UHMW, PE)
- Silicone sheets or surfaces, prime first with
- PTFEs aka Teflons

Product Name
Permabond 2050 Cyanoacrylate Thick Gel, High Viscosity, Gap Filling (Instant Adhesive)
Brief Description
Permabond 2050 is a flexible, toughened, medium-high viscosity ethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive. It is engineered to provide strong, fast bonds with excellent impact and vibration resistance. This adhesive is particularly suitable for bonding dissimilar, flexible, or semi-porous surfaces, especially those that may be subjected to thermal shock or thermal cycling.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding flexible or semi-porous substrates such as rubber, leather, and porous plastics.- Assemblies exposed to thermal cycling or mechanical vibration.- Bonding dissimilar materials.- Bonding silicone components when used in conjunction with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP).- Ideal for bonding "O" rings due to its flexibility.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/Building Services- Fabrication- Furniture- General Manufacturing- LED/Electronics- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Sign & Display- Transportation/Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Flexible and toughened formula, offering improved peel strengths compared to other cyanoacrylates.- Excellent impact and vibration resistance.- Suitable for bonding materials that could be subject to thermal shock or thermal cycling.- Medium-high viscosity, making it ideal for gap filling and use on slightly porous or uneven surfaces.- Fast cure at room temperature.- 100% reactive with no solvents.- Capable of bonding silicone when used with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP).
Key Properties
- Chemical composition: Ethyl cyanoacrylate.- Appearance: Colourless (Clear).- Viscosity @ 25°C: 1,200-1,800 mPa.s (cP).- Specific gravity: 1.1.- Maximum gap fill: Up to ~0.2 mm.- Fixture time: Approximately 10-15 seconds for steel, 5-10 seconds for rubber/PVC.- Full strength: Achieved in approximately 24 hours.- Operating temperature range: -55°C to 100°C, with brief periods up to 150°C.- Dielectric Strength: 25 kV/mm.- Hardness: 85 D.- Thermal Conductivity: 0.1 W/mK.
Surface Compatibility
- Flexible or semi-porous surfaces.- Dissimilar materials.- Metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, copper and its alloys; light abrasion recommended for oxide layer removal).- Plastics (e.g., ABS, PVC, PC; polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE require Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP)).- Rubbers (e.g., general rubbers; silicone requires Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP)).- Leather.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other Permabond cyanoacrylates (e.g., Permabond 947, Permabond 2011).- Loctite 401, Loctite 406, Loctite 454.- HB Fuller CB 2245, CB 2243.- General cyanoacrylate adhesives from brands like 3M and Three Bond.- Cyanotec PC01, SF100, C01, B401.
Comparison Note
Permabond 2050 distinguishes itself from many standard cyanoacrylate adhesives through its enhanced flexibility and toughened properties. This formulation provides superior peel, impact, and vibration resistance, making it exceptionally effective for applications involving dynamic stress, thermal cycling, or the bonding of flexible and dissimilar substrates where conventional instant adhesives might otherwise fail.
