Permabond 2010 Cyanoacrylate Super Glue Instant Adhesive is a one component, thixotropic non-sagging non-dripping, fast curing adhesive that is used for bonding vertical and porous surfaces, metals, elastomers, plastics, wood, and ceramics. It is 100% reactive, ideal for high speed production lines, and offers maximum gap filling capabilities. Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Use a suitable solvent (such as acetone or isopropanol) for the degreasing of surfaces. Some metals such as aluminium, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer.
Product Name
Permabond 2010 Fast-Set Shock-Resistant No-Sag No-Drip Gel for metals, plastics, rubbers
Brief Description
Permabond 2010 is a thixotropic, fast-setting cyanoacrylate (CA) adhesive, commonly known as an instant adhesive or super glue. Its unique gel consistency prevents sagging and dripping, making it particularly suitable for applications on vertical and porous substrates. This one-component adhesive cures rapidly by reacting with minute traces of moisture present on the surface of the materials being bonded, forming strong and durable bonds across a wide variety of substrates.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding dissimilar materials, leveraging its broad surface compatibility.
- Applications on vertical or overhead surfaces where a non-drip, non-sag adhesive is crucial.
- Effective for filling larger gaps due to its high viscosity and thixotropic nature.
- Ideal for bonding porous substrates such as wood, ceramics, and some fabrics.
- Used in high-speed production lines where rapid assembly and fixture time are essential.
- Commonly employed for wire tacking, component attachment, and tamper-proofing in electronic assemblies.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- General Manufacturing
- Metal Fabrication
- Plastic Fabrication
- Automotive Service/Repair
- LED/Electronics
- Furniture
- Medical Device/ Prosthetics
- Aerospace/Defense
- Marine
- Sign & Display
Special and Unique Features
- Thixotropic Gel Consistency: Ensures a no-sag, no-drip application, making it perfect for vertical, overhead, and irregular surfaces.
- Fast-Setting: Achieves handling strength in seconds, significantly increasing productivity in assembly operations.
- Shock-Resistant: Formulated to provide enhanced impact and vibration resistance, contributing to more durable bonds.
- Maximum Gap Filling: Its high viscosity allows it to effectively bridge and bond components with larger gaps, up to 0.5mm (0.02 inches).
- 100% Reactive: Contains no solvents, ensuring a solid, consistent bond without shrinkage due to solvent evaporation.
- Surface Insensitive: Capable of bonding a wide variety of substrates, including those that are acidic or porous, often with the aid of an activator for optimal performance.
Key Properties
- Adhesive Type: Ethyl Cyanoacrylate (CA)
- Appearance: Colourless
- Viscosity @ 25°C: Thixotropic semi-gel; 2,000-2,500 mPa.s (cP) at 20 rpm; 10,000-20,000 mPa.s (cP) at 2 rpm.
- Cure Speed: Fast, handling strength in seconds; full cure typically within 24 hours at room temperature.
- Temperature Resistance: -55°C to +85°C (-65°F to +185°F) continuous, with brief excursions up to 150°C (302°F).
- Shear Strength (e.g., on mild steel): 19-23 N/mm² (2800-3300 psi).
- Gap Fill: Up to 0.5mm (0.02 inches).
Surface Compatibility
Permabond 2010 is highly versatile and forms strong bonds with a broad range of materials, including:
- Metals: Such as steel, aluminum, zinc, brass, copper, and cast iron.
- Plastics: Including ABS, PVC, PC, and various engineering plastics. For low surface energy plastics like polypropylene, polyethylene, and PTFE, the use of a polyolefin primer (e.g., Permabond Polyolefin Primer POP) is recommended.
- Elastomers/Rubbers: Bonds effectively to a variety of rubber types.
- Ceramics: Provides strong adhesion to ceramic materials.
- Wood: Suitable for various wood bonding applications.
- Porous Substrates: Its gel consistency makes it ideal for bonding porous materials.
Known backups / known substitutes
For applications requiring similar performance, potential substitutes or comparable products include:
- Loctite 499: Permabond 2010 is a suggested alternative to Loctite 499.
- Loctite 454: Permabond C2011 is a suggested alternative to Loctite 454, which is a similar gel cyanoacrylate.
- Other high-viscosity, gel-type cyanoacrylate adhesives from reputable brands such as Loctite, 3M, Cyanotec, and Aron Alpha.
- Permabond 2050: A flexible cyanoacrylate adhesive from Permabond that offers improved peel strengths and excellent impact and vibration resistance.
Comparison Note
Permabond 2010 distinguishes itself from traditional liquid cyanoacrylates primarily through its thixotropic gel consistency. This characteristic eliminates run-off and dripping, making it superior for vertical, overhead, and gap-filling applications where lower viscosity CAs would be unsuitable. While many standard cyanoacrylates can be brittle, Permabond 2010 is formulated to be shock-resistant, offering improved impact and vibration performance, which broadens its utility in demanding environments. Its fast fixture time provides a significant advantage over slower-curing adhesives like epoxies or structural acrylics, making it an excellent choice for high-speed assembly lines or as a temporary fixturing aid while other, slower-curing structural adhesives achieve full strength.
