Permabond 105 Cyanoacrylate Super Glue Instant Adhesive is a low viscosity high purity cyanoacrylate adhesive. It is ideal for use on hard-to-bond plastics and rubbers such as natural rubber, EPDM and butyl rubber. It is also used for bonding tight fitting parts, high speed productions, wicking and penetrating applications. It develops fast, strong bonds to plastics, metals, natural and synthetic rubbers.
And can even bond thse difficult surfaces if the POP primer is applied first to the difficult surface side. (POP means Polyolefin Primer):
- POolypropylenes (PP, PPCO, PPHO),
- Polyethylenes (HDPE, MDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, UHMW, PE)
- Silicone sheets or surfaces, prime first with
- PTFEs aka Teflons
Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Use a suitable solvent (such as acetone or isopropanol) for the degreasing of surfaces. Some metals such as aluminium, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer. Also, this product is not recommended for use in contact with strong oxidizing materials and polar solvents although will withstand a solvent wash without any bond strength deterioration. Users are reminded that all materials, whether innocuous or not, should be handled in accordance with the principles of good industrial hygiene.
Product Name
Permabond 105 Instant Adhesive-for Difficult Plastics & Rubbers (like EPDM)
Brief Description
Permabond 105 is a low viscosity, high purity cyanoacrylate (CA) adhesive, commonly known as an instant adhesive. It is specifically formulated for fast-setting and strong bonding of hard-to-bond surfaces, including natural and synthetic rubbers such as EPDM, butyl rubber, and Buna-N, as well as various plastics. This single-component adhesive cures rapidly at room temperature when pressed into a thin film between parts, initiated by surface moisture.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding natural and synthetic rubbers, including EPDM, butyl rubber, Buna-N, nitrile, and latex.
- Fast assembly of plastic components such as ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, and phenolic materials.
- Sealing and reinforcing industrial components.
- Medical device and electronic assembly.
- Wire tacking applications.
- Wicking or penetrating applications for closely fitting parts.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense: Due to its MIL-SPEC compliance (MIL-A-46050C Type II, Class 1) and suitability for aerospace and military applications.
- Automotive Service/Repair: EPDM rubber is widely used in the automotive industry for seals and gaskets.
- General Manufacturing: Ideal for various industrial and manufacturing applications, particularly for high-speed production lines.
- Medical Device/ Prosthetics: Used in the assembly of medical devices.
- Plastic Fabrication: Specifically designed for bonding difficult plastics.
- Electrical Services or Products: Suitable for electronic assembly and can withstand processes like wave soldering.
- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle: Given its use with EPDM and other rubbers common in vehicle manufacturing.
- Distributers & Resellers: As a specialized industrial adhesive, it is supplied through distributors and resellers.
- Industrial Supply: A common product found in industrial supply channels.
Special and Unique Features
- Optimized for bonding difficult plastics and rubbers, such as EPDM, natural rubber, and butyl rubber.
- Fast-setting, low-viscosity formula for rapid assembly and high-speed production lines.
- Meets MIL-SPEC MIL-A-46050C Type II, Class 1, ensuring compliance for aerospace, military, and industrial applications.
- Provides high strength and good impact resistance.
- Single-part adhesive, requiring no mixing or heat cure, simplifying application.
- 100% solids and solvent-free, making it an eco-friendly option with no VOCs.
- Can withstand higher temperatures for brief periods, suitable for processes like paint baking and wave soldering, provided the joint is not unduly stressed.

Surface Compatibility
Permabond 105 bonds effectively to a wide range of materials, including:
- Natural rubber
- Synthetic rubbers (EPDM, butyl rubber, Buna-N, nitrile, latex)
- Plastics (ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic, Delrin®, plasticized vinyl)
- Metals (steel, aluminum, zinc)
For difficult-to-bond low surface energy plastics like polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, or silicone rubber, the use of Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is recommended prior to adhesive application.
Known backups / known substitutes
Known alternatives and substitutes for Permabond 105 include:
- Loctite® 406
- 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ PR600
- Permatex® Plastic Bonding Super Glue
- Other Permabond cyanoacrylates such as Permabond 268 or 2011 (for higher viscosity needs), or Permabond 737 (a black adhesive).
- For applications requiring longer fixture times, larger gap filling, or enhanced resistance to polar and non-polar solvents, structural acrylic adhesives like Permabond TA4605, TA4610, or TA4611 may be considered.
Comparison Note
Permabond 105 is specifically engineered and optimized for superior performance on difficult-to-bond rubbers and plastics, offering stronger bonds on these substrates compared to some general-purpose cyanoacrylate grades. Its very low viscosity makes it ideal for bonding tight-fitting parts and for wicking into pre-assembled components. While highly effective on its target materials, it is noted that Permabond 105 may not achieve the same level of performance on metals as some other specialized cyanoacrylate grades.
