Made of 100% pure PVC plastic (Polyvinyl Chloride), no impurities. All Plastic Rods, Coils & Reels should be used with an appropriate plastic welding iron, heat dispenser or torch with applicable attachments.
PVC Rods, Coils & Reels can be used for several popular types of repair jobs, but each plastic repair job needs to be carefully matched to the same type of Plastic Rod or Coil. These Rods, Coils & Reels are PVC Plastic.
Warning: Mixing different types of plastics will likely result in poor quality repairs and poor longevity of the welds. Quite Simply, match your plastics and you're good... different plastics simply don't work well together.
PVC Rods, Coils & Reels: Use with any plastic labeled Recycling # 3. Also typically includes Water pipes, lawn sprinkler underground horizontal pipes, Toys
Product Name
Maven Plastics - PVC Gray (flexible semi-rigid) Plastic Welding Rods, Coils & Reels
Brief Description
These are specialized filler materials made from 100% pure, homogeneous, flexible/semi-rigid Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) in a gray color, designed for plastic welding and repair of PVC components. They are available in various shapes and lengths, including rods, coils, and reels.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Repairing and joining PVC pipes, fittings, and drainage systems.- Welding vinyl floors, fences, windows, and wall systems.- Fabrication and repair of chemical tanks, manifolds, valve and pump housings, and industrial ducts.- Automotive repairs, such as vehicle parts, cracked bumpers, dashboards, and motorcycle fairings.- Marine applications, including repairing water tanks and linings, and boat seats.- General plastic fabrication and manufacturing of PVC items like containers and signage.- DIY and crafting projects, such as PVC furniture and decorative items.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Plastic Fabrication- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Marine- Chemical Industry- General Manufacturing- Prosumer
Special and Unique Features
- Flexible/semi-rigid nature allows for expansion and contraction with temperature fluctuations, making it suitable for applications requiring some give.- Made from 100% pure and homogeneous PVC material, ensuring consistent quality and strong bonds.- Gray color is consistent with standard Schedule-80 gray PVC pipes, providing a seamless aesthetic for repairs.- Available in various shapes (round, triangle, ribbon) and packaging (rods, coils, reels) to suit diverse welding needs.- Biologically and chemically resistant, making it suitable for corrosive environments.- Good electrical insulator.
Key Properties
- Material: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)- Flexibility: Flexible / Semi-rigid- Color: Gray- Purity: 100% pure and homogeneous PVC- Chemical Resistance: Resistant to acids, alkalis, alcohol, oil, and gasoline.- Impact Resistance: High elasticity and impact resistance (for flexible PVC-P).- Water Absorption: Low water absorption (for flexible PVC-P).- Melting Point: Approximately 220°C to 230°C (for flexible PVC-P).- Continuous Use Temperature: -50°C to +60°C (for flexible PVC-P).
Surface Compatibility
- Strictly compatible with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) materials.- "Like-to-like" welding is crucial; mixing different plastic types will result in poor quality repairs and longevity.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other plastic welding rods made from different polymers (e.g., ABS, HDPE, PP, PE, CPVC, PVDF) for their respective plastic types.- Adhesives (e.g., 5-minute epoxy, fiberglass resin) for joining plastics, though often less effective for many plastics than welding.- Mechanical fasteners (e.g., latches, nails, hot staples) for joining stronger, more durable plastics or for reinforcement.- Solvent welding, particularly for pipes, where a solvent softens the plastic to merge pieces.
Comparison Note
- Flexible/semi-rigid PVC welding rods offer an advantage over rigid PVC rods due to their ability to expand and contract with temperature fluctuations, making them suitable for applications where some movement or flexibility is required.- Plastic welding, especially with the correct rod, creates a strong, durable, and often airtight molecular bond, which can be more effective and cost-efficient than many adhesive or mechanical fastening methods for compatible thermoplastics.- Unlike thermoset plastics, PVC is a thermoplastic, meaning it can be shaped and welded when heat is applied.
