Maven Plastics - PP Black Plastic (Copolymer) Welding Rods, Coils & Reels. (Polypropylene Copolymer)
Plastic Welding Rod Specs:
- 100% pure PP (Copolymer) moisture-free
- Shape Options are:
- Round 1/8 inch (3mm), 5/32 inch (4mm), and 3/16 inch (5mm)
- Triangle 7/32 inch (5.7mm)
- Flat 1/16 x 5/8 (1.6mm x 16mm)
- Packaging Options are:
- Rods come in packs of 10, 20 & 40 Rods each
- Coils come in 100-ft (approx 1/2 pound) and 200-ft (approx 1 pound)
- Reels come in 500ft (aapprox 2.5 Lbs), 10-Lbs, 20-Lbs, and 50-Lbs
Made of 100% pure PP plastic (Copolymer) material, no impurities, vacuum sealed to minimize moisture absorption, which can ruin the rod and cause plastic burns and rough choppy welds. All Plastic Rods should be used with an appropriate plastic welding iron, heat dispenser or torch with applicable attachments.
PP (Copolymer) Rods, Coils & Reels can be used for several popular types of repair jobs, but each plastic repair job needs to be carefully matched to the same type of Plastic Rod or Coil. These rods & coils are ABS Plastic.
Warning: Mixing different types of plastics will likely result in poor quality repairs and poor longevity of the welds. Quite Simply, match your plastics and you're good... different plastics simply don't work well together.
PP (Copolymer) Rods, Coils & Reels: Often found without a Recycling label number, but may be found with # 9 recycling. ABS typically includes Lego building blocks, Keyboards, Power Tool Housings, Wall Outlet Covers, Toys
Product Name
Maven Plastics - PP-CO Black Plastic Welding Rods, Coils & Reels - Black (Polypropylene Copolymer)
Brief Description
These are specialized thermoplastic filler materials made from Polypropylene Copolymer (PP-CO) for plastic welding. They are used to fuse two separate pieces of polypropylene plastic into one solid, durable joint.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Repairing and fabricating plastic parts, such as car bumpers and automotive components.- Construction of tanks, containers, and drums for storing liquids, chemicals, and foodstuffs.- Fabrication of industrial equipment, ductwork, and fume hoods.- Pipeline construction for drinking water, wastewater, and industrial pipelines.- Aquaculture applications, including building ponds and fish tanks.- General plastic fabrication and repair work where strong, flexible bonds are required.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- Chemical Industry- Construction/ Building Services- Food & Beverage Company or Distributor- General Manufacturing- Marine- Plastic Fabrication- Pool/Spa/Plumbing
Special and Unique Features
- Made of 100% pure PP (Copolymer) material, free from impurities.- Vacuum sealed to minimize moisture absorption, preventing plastic burns and rough welds.- Offers excellent chemical resistance, impact strength, and good processability.- Lightweight, making it easy to handle and transport.- Available in various shapes (round, triangle, flat/ribbon) and packaging options (coils, reels).- UV protected for harsh, outdoor, sun-exposed environments (optional for some PP rods).
Key Properties
- **Material:** Polypropylene Copolymer (PP-CO)- **Chemical Resistance:** High resistance to many chemical solvents, bases, acids, and environmental influences.- **Durability:** Provides strong and lasting bonds, resistant to shocks and fatigue.- **Tensile Strength:** High tensile strength.- **Flexibility:** Good flexibility and resistance to fatigue.- **Dimensional Stability:** Most dimensionally stable polyolefin.- **Low Specific Gravity:** Lightweight.- **Moisture Resistance:** Impermeable to salt and moisture.- **Workability:** Easy to process with high welding speed and quality.
Surface Compatibility
- Strictly compatible with parent materials of the same plastic type, specifically Polypropylene (PP) and Polypropylene Copolymer (PP-CO).- Mixing different types of plastics will likely result in poor quality repairs and poor longevity of the welds.- PP-CO is often compatible with PPHO (Polypropylene Homopolymer).
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other plastic welding rods made from different polymers like PVC, HDPE, ABS, LDPE, CPVC, PVDF, etc., but these are not substitutes for PP-CO and must be matched to the parent material.- Adhesives/Epoxies (e.g., methyl methacrylate-based plastic welders or general epoxy) can be used for plastic repair, but they typically rely on mechanical keying and may not form a chemical bond as strong as welding.
Comparison Note
- Polypropylene (PP) welding rods are known for their excellent chemical resistance, durability, and versatility compared to other plastic welding rod types.- It is crucial to match the welding rod material to the parent material for strong, durable, and seamless joints.- PP-CO offers enhanced flexibility and impact resistance compared to homopolymer polypropylene.
