- Reels come in 500ft (aapprox 2.5 Lbs), 10-Lbs, 20-Lbs, and 50-Lbs
Made of 100% pure LLDPE plastic (Linear Low Density Polyethylene), no impurities. All Plastic Rods, Coils & Reels should be used with an appropriate plastic welding iron, heat dispenser or torch with applicable attachments.
LLDPE Rods, Coils & Reels can be used for several popular types of repair jobs, but each plastic repair job needs to be carefully matched to the same type of Plastic Rod or Coil. Repair jobs can include windshield washer bottles, radiator overflow tanks, variety of gas tanks, fender repairs (popular for Off-Road, ATV, dirt bikes, motocross), variety of water tanks, kayaks, canoes, and agricultural water/fertilizer tanks.
These Rods, Coils & Reels are LLDPE Polyethylene Plastic.
Warning: Mixing different types of plastics will likely result in poor quality repairs and poor longevity of the welds. Quite Simply, match your plastics and you're good... different plastics simply don't work well together.
Because Polyethylene is very stable (meaning few things will react with it), it is almost impossible to get quality repairs using adhesives, and also why it is used to contain chemicals (gasoline, pesticides, etc.) that would react with other plastics. Welding is the best repair method for polyethylene.
LLDPE Rods, Coils & Reels: Use with any plastic labeled Recycling # 2. Also typically includes Plastic Barrels, Chemical Resistant Containers, Plastic Dustbins, Chemical-resistant pipes, plastic carrying cartons
Product Name
Maven Plastics - LLDPE Natural (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) Mildly-Translucent White Plastic Welding Rods, Coils & Reels
Brief Description
Maven Plastics LLDPE Natural welding rods, coils, and reels are thermoplastic materials specifically designed for joining or repairing plastics, primarily those made from Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) and Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). These products facilitate the creation of strong, durable bonds when heated and applied to compatible plastic surfaces.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Repairing automotive parts such as fluid reservoirs, inner fender liners, and bumpers.- Mending kayaks, canoes, and ATV/dirt bike fenders.- Fabricating and repairing various types of tanks, including chemical, water, and agricultural tanks.- Utilized in civil engineering and geomembrane projects, such as patching seams around pipes and lining landfills or ponds.- Repairing playground equipment.- General plastic repair and fabrication across a wide range of products where LLDPE or LDPE plastics are employed.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Plastic Fabrication- General Manufacturing- Marine- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Chemical Industry
Special and Unique Features
- Manufactured from high-quality virgin LLDPE resins, ensuring consistent performance.- Mildly-translucent white color, offering a natural finish for repairs.- Available in various forms including rods, coils, and reels to suit different welding techniques and application needs.- Exhibits excellent chemical resistance, making it suitable for environments exposed to various chemicals.- Possesses high ductility and impact strength, contributing to durable repairs.- Offers good electrical insulation and sliding properties.- Designed to create strong, durable, and permanent bonds when correctly matched with like plastics.
Key Properties
- Material: Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE).- Appearance: Mildly-translucent white (often described as natural color or milky white).- Density: Typically ranges between 0.916-0.940 g/cm³.- Melting Point: Approximately 45°C to 125°C for PE-LLD, with LDPE generally melting between 100°C - 140°C. LLDPE has a broader and somewhat lower melting window than HDPE.- Continuous Use Temperature: Maximum of 90°C.- Chemical Resistance: Good resistance to a wide array of chemicals, acids, bases, and solvents.- Flexibility and Toughness: Known for exceptional flexibility and toughness.- Impact and Puncture Resistance: Demonstrates higher impact and puncture resistance compared to conventional LDPE.- Tensile Strength: Exhibits higher tensile strength than LDPE.- Water Absorption: Characterized by low water absorption.- Electrical Properties: Provides good electrical insulation.- Processability: Relatively easy to process using common plastic processing techniques such as extrusion, blow molding, and injection molding.
Surface Compatibility
- Primarily compatible with LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) plastics.- Can also be effectively used to weld LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) plastics.- It is critical to match like-plastic to like-plastic to achieve strong, consistent, and lasting welds.- While LDPE welding rod can be used on HDPE sheet, the reverse is generally not recommended.- Welding LLDPE to HDPE is possible but can be more challenging than extrusion welding, and the resulting bond strength may be limited by the weaker material.
Known backups / known substitutes
- HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) welding rods, suitable for HDPE applications.- LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene) welding rods, used for LDPE applications.- PP (Polypropylene) welding rods, for polypropylene-based repairs.- PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) welding rods, for PVC applications.- ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) welding rods, for ABS plastic repairs.- Other thermoplastic welding rods such as Polycarbonate, Acrylic, or ASA, depending on the specific plastic being repaired.
Comparison Note
- LLDPE generally offers higher tensile strength, impact resistance, and puncture resistance compared to conventional LDPE.- LLDPE is more flexible and exhibits greater elongation under stress than LDPE.- It allows for the creation of thinner films with improved environmental stress cracking resistance compared to LDPE.- However, LLDPE can be less easy to process than LDPE, often having lower gloss and a narrower range for heat sealing.- When compared to HDPE, LLDPE typically has lower stiffness, strength, and heat resistance, which may limit its suitability for high-pressure or high-temperature applications.- HDPE generally provides superior chemical resistance and strength for highly aggressive chemicals or elevated temperatures compared to LLDPE.- Welding LLDPE to HDPE is feasible but can be more difficult than extrusion welding, and the resulting weld strength may be limited to the lower values associated with the LLDPE.
