Mactac IM1863 is an uneven surface foam tape that pairs a 1/16 inch white PE foam carrier with MP555 Ultra 555 permanent rubber adhesive at 2.6 mils per side. Total caliper is 66.50 mils, double the cushion of the 1/32 inch IM1763. Thickness is the whole point. A 1/16 inch foam closes gaps a thin film tape skates across, so it holds on weld beads, extrusion draft, textured wall finishes, and panel edges that are not quite coplanar. At 1 inch by 108 feet on a plastic core it is the smallest roll in the Ultra 555 line, which makes it the easy way to try the adhesive before committing to a wider width.
What an uneven surface foam tape gives you
- 1/16 in white PE foam carrier, 66.50 mil total caliper
- MP555 Ultra 555 permanent rubber adhesive, both faces, 2.6 mil per side
- Peel adhesion 8 lbs/in on stainless steel, PSTC-101 Method A
- Loop tack 10 lbs/in, PSTC-16
- Shear 500 plus hours under a 1 kg load at 72F, PSTC-107
- Tensile 129 lbs/in machine direction, 96 lbs/in cross direction
- 232 percent elongation machine direction, so it stretches around a radius instead of splitting
- 78# SCK liner at medium release, peels clean by hand and feeds a rotary die
- Water resistant, so restroom and kitchen fixtures hold without a sealant bead
Popular Uses
- Signage and display mounting
- Appliance trim and badge attachment
- Soap and sanitizer dispenser mounting
- Mirror mounting
- Bonding decorative paneling to framing
- Vibration damping on HVAC panels, equipment covers, and ductwork
- Die cut pads and gaskets, since the carrier holds its shape through a rotary die
Physical Properties
- Part number: IM1863-78
- Roll size: 1 in x 108 ft on a plastic core
- Application temperature: 50F minimum
- Service temperature: -40F to 190F
- Color: white
Choosing an Uneven Surface Foam Tape Thickness
Specify this 1/16 inch carrier when the substrate is out of plane by more than a few thousandths of an inch. Drop to the 1/32 inch IM1763 for flat drywall and sheet metal, where the extra bulk buys nothing. The same Ultra 555 adhesive is also coated on a 0.5 mil PET film when the joint needs no foam at all.
Surface Preparation
Wipe both faces clear of dust, oil, and release agent and let them dry. Peel the liner back a few inches, set the part, then press the full length with a roller so the adhesive wets into the texture. Apply at 50F or warmer so the adhesive flows. Both faces are permanent, so set the position before the liner comes all the way off.

Product Name
Mactac IM1863 Double Coated PE Foam Tape, 1/16 in (Macbond Ultra 555)
Brief Description
IM1863 is a double coated foam tape on a 1/16 inch white PE foam carrier with MP555 Ultra 555 permanent rubber adhesive on both faces. It carries double the cushion of the 1/32 inch IM1763, which is what lets it close gaps a thin film tape skates across. At 1 inch by 108 feet it is the smallest roll in the Ultra 555 line and the usual way a shop tries the adhesive before committing to a wider width.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Signage and display mounting
- Appliance trim and badge attachment
- Soap and sanitizer dispenser mounting
- Mirror mounting
- Bonding decorative paneling to framing
- Vibration damping on HVAC panels, equipment covers, and ductwork
- Die cut pads and gaskets run on a rotary die
- Mounting over weld beads, extrusion draft, and textured wall finishes
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Sign & Display: sign faces, plaques, and display panels mounted without fasteners.
- General Manufacturing & Metal Fabrication: badge and trim attachment on painted and powder coated parts, and mounting over weld beads.
- Construction/ Building Services: decorative paneling to framing and fixtures to finished walls.
- Maintenance & Repair: stopping panel buzz on HVAC covers and equipment skins before it turns into a service call.
- Restaurants & Pool/Spa/Plumbing: dispenser and fixture mounting in wet areas, where the water resistant adhesive holds without a sealant bead.
- Cabinet & Woodworking and Furniture: trim and panel attachment where a fastener head would show.
- Prosumer: a 108 foot roll is a realistic quantity for a single job.
Special and Unique Features
- Double the Cushion: 1/16 inch foam at 66.50 mil total caliper, against 35.25 mil on the IM1763.
- Closes Real Gaps: bridges substrates that are out of plane by more than a few thousandths of an inch.
- High Elongation: 232 percent machine direction, so it stretches around a radius instead of splitting.
- Water Resistant: restroom and kitchen fixtures hold without a separate sealant bead.
- Die Cuts Clean: the carrier holds its shape through a rotary die without tearing at the kiss cut.
- Smallest Roll in the Line: the low risk way to qualify Ultra 555 adhesive on your own parts.
Key Properties
- Carrier: 1/16 in white PE foam
- Adhesive: MP555 Ultra 555 permanent rubber, both sides, 2.6 mil per side

- Peel Adhesion: 8 lbs/in on stainless steel, PSTC-101 Method A
- Loop Tack: 10 lbs/in, PSTC-16
- Shear Strength: 500 plus hours, PSTC-107, 1 kg at 72F
- Tensile Strength: 129 lbs/in machine direction, 96 lbs/in cross direction
- Elongation: 232 percent machine direction
- Roll Size: 1 in x 108 ft on a plastic core
- Application Temperature: 50F minimum
- Service Temperature: -40F to 190F
Surface Compatibility
Bonds the substrates Mactac lists for the Ultra 555 range, including low surface energy materials that walk thin acrylic tapes off the wall.
- Painted, powder coated, and anodized metal
- Stainless steel and bare sheet metal
- ABS, polycarbonate, acrylic, and PVC sheet
- Low surface energy plastics including polypropylene and HDPE
- PE foam
- Glass, wood, and corrugated
- Zero VOC painted drywall
- Felt, fabric, and printed vinyl
Known backups / known substitutes
- Mactac IM1763, the same Ultra 555 adhesive on a 1/32 inch foam, for flat drywall and sheet metal
- Mactac IM1900XT (Macmount XT), high tack XT rubber on 1/32 inch crosslinked PE foam
- Mactac GS1001, 20 mil unsupported rubber transfer adhesive where no carrier is wanted
- Ultra 555 adhesive on a 0.5 mil PET film when the joint needs no foam at all
Comparison Note
Within the Ultra 555 family the choice is carrier thickness, not chemistry. Specify this 1/16 inch grade when the surfaces do not sit flat against each other. Drop to the 1/32 inch IM1763 when they do, because the extra bulk buys nothing on a flat wall. Against the Macmount XT line, Ultra 555 trades a little initial grab for a wider service range, holding from -40F to 190F where XT runs 0F to 180F.
