Mactac IM1763 is a no drill mounting tape built on a 1/32 inch white PE foam carrier with MP555 permanent rubber adhesive coated 2.6 mils onto each face. Total caliper runs 35.25 mils, and the roll ships self wound, permanent to permanent, 1 inch wide by 216 feet on a 3 inch plastic core. What wins ADA and office signage work is adhesion to zero VOC painted drywall, a low energy surface that walks most thin acrylic tapes off the wall inside a season. On most of these installs it replaces mechanical fasteners outright, so there are no drilled holes, no anchors, and no patching afterward. It cross references to 3M 4032.
Why a no drill mounting tape holds on painted drywall
MP555 is a rubber pressure sensitive adhesive tuned for high tack and peel while keeping the cohesive strength that rubber systems usually trade away. Under a 1 kg static load it runs past 500 hours before shear failure. The 1/32 inch foam compresses to bridge orange peel texture, joint compound ridges, and the small mismatch between two dissimilar substrates, and it stays compressed under load rather than springing the edges open. Ultra 555 is water resistant, which is why fixture mounting in restrooms and kitchens does not need a separate sealant bead.
Popular Uses
- Acoustic panel mounting, where the foam also damps panel buzz and low frequency noise
- ADA signage, interior signage, and nameplates
- Soap and sanitizer dispensers, mirrors, and fixtures
- Shiplap, architectural detailing, and decorative paneling
- Wire clips and surface mounted electrical channel
- Point of purchase assembly, where a rigid faceplate has to sit flat against a cupped substrate

No Drill Mounting Tape Surface Preparation
Clean both surfaces of dust, oil, and release agent and let them dry. Peel the liner back a few inches, position the part, then roll the full length down firmly so the adhesive wets into the surface texture. Apply at 50F or warmer. Pick the thicker 1/16 inch IM1863 instead when the substrate is out of plane by more than a few thousandths of an inch.
Questions Before You Order

Product Name
Mactac IM1763 Double Coated PE Foam Tape, 1/32 in (Macbond Ultra 555)
Brief Description
IM1763 is the workhorse of the Mactac Macbond Ultra 555 family, a 1/32 inch white PE foam carrier with MP555 permanent rubber adhesive coated 2.6 mils onto each face. Its defining property is adhesion to zero VOC painted drywall, a low energy surface that walks most thin acrylic tapes off the wall inside a season. On most interior installs it replaces mechanical fasteners outright, leaving no drilled holes and no patching.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Acoustic panel mounting, where the foam also damps panel buzz
- ADA signage, interior signage, and nameplates
- Mirror, fixture, and dispenser mounting
- Shiplap, architectural detailing, and decorative paneling
- Wire clips and surface mounted electrical channel
- Point of purchase assembly where a rigid faceplate meets a cupped substrate
- Die cut pads and gaskets
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Sign & Display: ADA plaques, interior signage, and channel letter work mounted with no visible fastener.
- Construction/ Building Services and Cladding: acoustic panels, shiplap, and architectural detailing onto finished walls.
- Colleges & Universities: ADA and wayfinding signage in corridors, with no anchors and no patching.
- Electrical Services or Products: wire clips and surface mounted channel on painted walls.
- Cabinet & Woodworking and Furniture: decorative paneling and trim attachment.
- General Manufacturing & Fabrication: nameplate and hardware mounting on painted and powder coated parts.
- Maintenance & Repair: fixture and dispenser mounting in restrooms and kitchens without a sealant bead.
- Restaurants: dispenser and fixture mounting in wet areas.
- Sign shops and Prosumer buyers: 216 feet covers a run of signage on one roll.
Special and Unique Features
- Holds on Zero VOC Paint: the low energy painted drywall finish that defeats most thin acrylic tapes.
- Replaces Fasteners: no drilled holes, no anchors, and no patching after the part comes down.
- Damps Panel Noise: the foam carrier absorbs buzz and low frequency noise behind the face.
- Stays Compressed: bridges orange peel texture and joint compound ridges without springing the edges open.
- Water Resistant: restroom and kitchen fixture mounting needs no separate sealant.
- Cross References 3M 4032: a direct swap for shops already specifying that construction.

Surface Compatibility
Bonds the substrates Mactac lists for the Ultra 555 range, with zero VOC painted drywall as the headline case.
- Zero VOC painted drywall and gypsum
- Painted, powder coated, and anodized metal
- Bare and painted sheet metal
- ABS, polycarbonate, acrylic, and PVC sheet
- Low surface energy plastics including polypropylene and HDPE
- PE foam
- Glass, wood, and corrugated
- Felt, fabric, and printed vinyl
Known backups / known substitutes
- Mactac IM1863, the same Ultra 555 adhesive on a 1/16 inch foam, when surfaces are out of plane
- Mactac IM1900XT (Macmount XT), high tack XT rubber on 1/32 inch crosslinked PE foam
- Mactac GS1001, 20 mil unsupported rubber transfer adhesive for fastener replacement on panels
- 3M 4032, the published cross reference for this construction
Comparison Note
This is the thin grade in the Ultra 555 family and the right default for flat interior work. Move to the 1/16 inch IM1863 only when the substrate is genuinely out of plane, because the thicker foam adds bulk without adding grip on a flat wall. Against the Macmount XT line, Ultra 555 gives up a little initial tack in exchange for a service floor of -40F rather than 0F.
