Product Name
LORD 7545 A/F Slow Set 45-65 Minute Urethane Adhesive System - Thick Viscosity, Non-Sag with Configurable Set-Time & high strength for FRP, SMC, Plastics, primed metals, powder coating
Brief Description
LORD 7545 A/F is a two-component, equal-mix urethane adhesive system known for its high strength and excellent durability in structural applications. It features a thick, non-sag viscosity, making it suitable for vertical and overhead applications, and offers a configurable set-time to meet diverse process requirements. This adhesive is designed to bond a variety of substrates, including FRP, SMC, other plastics, and primed metals, often with minimal surface preparation.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding applications requiring high strength and durability.- Bonding backup strips to SMC (Sheet Molded Compound) and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic).- Backside reinforcement repair on various plastic components, particularly in vehicles.- Bonding industrial and marine composites.- Panel bonding and lamination in various manufacturing processes.- General assembly where strong, durable bonds are needed for dissimilar substrates.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair for vehicle component bonding and repair.- Construction/Building Services for structural and panel bonding.- Fabrication for general bonding of composites, plastics, and metals.- General Manufacturing as a versatile structural adhesive, often replacing traditional fastening methods.- Marine for bonding industrial and marine composites.- Metal Fabrication for bonding primed metals.- Plastic Fabrication for bonding FRP, SMC, and other plastics.- Transportation/Specialty Vehicle for truck building, vehicle panel manufacturing, and other assembly.
Special and Unique Features
- Configurable set-time, allowing selection of hardeners to achieve desired working times.- Non-sag, thick viscosity paste that remains in position on vertical and overhead surfaces.- High strength and excellent durability for demanding structural applications.- Non-flammable, exceeding U.S. DOT requirements.- Environmentally resistant to sunlight, weathering, humidity, and salt spray.- Chemically resistant to solvents once cured, with painting and most cleaning processes not affecting bond strength.- Does not contain ozone-depleting chemicals.
Key Properties
- Adhesive Type: Two-component urethane adhesive system.- Work Time: 45-65 minutes (slow set, configurable).- Mix Ratio: 1:1 by volume.- Viscosity: Thick, non-sag paste (230,000-650,000 cP for curative).- Full Cure Time: 24 hours at 75°F (24°C).- Appearance: Off-white paste when cured (can vary by curative).- High strength and durability for structural bonds.- Resistant to environmental factors and chemicals.
Surface Compatibility
- FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic)- SMC (Sheet Molded Compound)- Other plastics (with little surface preparation).- Primed metals.- Powder coating.- Various combinations of dissimilar substrates.
Known backups / known substitutes
- 3M™ SMC/Fiberglass Repair Adhesives (two-part urethanes or epoxies).- Norton SpeedGrip/PLIOGRIP two-part urethane adhesives.- Other LORD urethane adhesives (e.g., LORD 7800, LORD 7542, LORD 7550 series for specific applications).- Acrylic adhesives (e.g., Maxlok MX/T series, LORD 662 acrylic adhesive) for structural bonding, often replacing welding or riveting.- Epoxy adhesives for structural bonding applications.
Comparison Note
LORD 7545 A/F stands out due to its specific combination of a slow set time (45-65 minutes), thick non-sag viscosity, and high strength, making it ideal for applications requiring extended working time for precise placement on vertical or overhead surfaces. While other urethane, acrylic, and epoxy adhesives offer high strength and compatibility with similar substrates, the configurable slow set and non-sag properties of LORD 7545 A/F provide distinct advantages for complex assemblies or large-scale industrial applications where controlled application and extended open time are critical.
