Key Properties
- Adhesive Type: Two-component urethane adhesive- Mix Ratio: 1:1 by volume- Work Time: 3-5 minutes (for 7545 A/B Black Fast Set)- Handling Time: 30 minutes (for 7545 A/B Black Fast Set)- Full Cure Time: 24 hours at 75°F (24°C)- Viscosity: Thick, non-flowable, non-sag paste (typical viscosity for 7545-B curative is 230,000-650,000 cP)- Color: Black (cured)- High Impact and Peel Strength- Excellent Flexibility and Vibration Absorption
Surface Compatibility
- FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic)- SMC (Sheet Molded Compound)- Various Plastics (rigid plastics, including those used in automotive components)- Primed Metals (e.g., steel, aluminum)- Powder Coating (as it bonds primed metals, which can be powder coated)- Dissimilar Substrates (various combinations of the above)
Known backups / known substitutes
- 3M™ SMC/Fiberglass Repair Adhesives (two-part urethanes or epoxies)- Norton SpeedGrip SMC FRP Fiberglass Urethane Adhesive- Other LORD 7545 curatives (e.g., 7545 A/C, A/D, A/E, A/F, A/G) which offer different work times and properties within the same product family- Other industrial polyurethane adhesives from various manufacturers- Epoxy adhesives (though urethane offers greater flexibility and vibration resistance)
Comparison Note
LORD 7545 A/B stands out as a high-performance urethane adhesive system, offering a unique balance of flexibility, strength, and durability. It is particularly well-suited for applications that demand resistance to vibration, impact, and harsh environmental conditions. Unlike some stiffer epoxy alternatives, this urethane adhesive maintains flexibility after curing, making it ideal for assemblies subject to movement and thermal expansion. The configurable set-time across the LORD 7545 product line provides significant process flexibility, while its non-sag characteristic simplifies application on vertical or overhead surfaces.
