The FUSION 3 extrusion welder stands out with its slim and comfortable design, as well as high output volume. In two different versions, the extruder processes PE and PP of 3-4 mm or 4-5 mm welding rod, which is fed on both sides. Integrated motor start-up protection prevents a cold start on the extruder. Thanks to its slim design, FUSION 3 is ideally suited for work that requires lots of standing.
- Up to 3.6 kg/h (8 lbs/h) output volume
- A surprisingly compact, handheld extrusion welder
- Robustly design
- Adjustment extrusion volume
- Various holding options
- High welding power
- Long, narrow extruder
- Welding Rod Input Feeder on both sides of gun to maximize flexability of operation
- Motor start-up protection prevents cold start
- Adjustable output volume
The difference between the Fusion 3C and the Fusion 3 is:
- The difference is all about the position of the blower moter
- Fusion 3 blower moter is horizontally positioned, and therefore makes it slightly shorter but also longer than the Fusion 3C.
- Whereas the Fusion 3C blower motor is diagnolly positioned, is slightly taller than the Fusion 3 but also slightly shorter as well.

Product Name
Leister 144.615 Fusion 3 Extrusion Welder 230V/3500W, 3-4mm or 4-5mm rod
Brief Description
The Leister Fusion 3 is a robust and ergonomic hand-held extrusion welder designed for heavy-duty plastic welding applications. It efficiently processes thermoplastic welding rods of 3-4mm or 4-5mm diameter, delivering a high output volume of molten plastic to create strong, consistent welds. This model is particularly noted for its slim design, making it comfortable for extended use, especially in civil engineering applications where standing work is common.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Landfill and mining membrane welding- Foundation and reservoir waterproofing- Plastic tank, container, and pipe fabrication- Lining systems for environmental containment and wastewater management- Fabrication of fume hoods, ducts, and fittings- General civil engineering and underground engineering projects- Repair and fabrication of plastic components in automotive and transportation- Agricultural and water engineering applications, such as land drainage systems
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Plastic Fabrication- Construction/ Building Services- Engineering Services (especially civil and environmental engineering)- Pool/Spa/Plumbing (for thermoplastic pipe welding)- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle (for plastic component repair and fabrication)- General Manufacturing (for high-volume thermoplastic fabrication)
Special and Unique Features
- High welding power with an output volume of 1.8-3.6 kg/h (4-7.5 lbs/hr)- Slim and ergonomic design for comfortable, upright working, especially in civil engineering- Dual-sided, twist-free welding rod intake for maximum flexibility- 360° rotatable welding shoe for versatile application- Integrated motor start-up protection to prevent cold starts and motor damage- Independently adjustable air temperature and plast output rate via potentiometers- Integrated hot air blower, eliminating the need for an external air source
Key Properties
- **Voltage:** 230 V- **Power:** 3500 W- **Welding Rod Diameter:** Ø 3-4 mm or Ø 4-5 mm- **Material Output:** 2.1 - 3.6 kg/h (depending on rod size)- **Weldable Sheet/Membrane Thickness:** Recommended for 1 - 25 mm (some sources specify 1-3mm for this model)- **Weight (without power cord):** 7.2 kg- **Dimensions (L x W x H):** 670 x 90 x 180 mm- **Country of Origin:** Switzerland
Surface Compatibility
This extrusion welder is compatible with a range of thermoplastic materials, including:- High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)- Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)- Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)- Polypropylene (PP)- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) (with proper purging)- Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) (with proper purging)
Known backups / known substitutes
- **Other Leister Extrusion Welders:** Leister Fusion 2, Leister Fusion 3C (shorter, more compact version), Leister Weldplast series (S1, S2, S4, S6 - often digitally controlled with more advanced features)- **Other Brands of Extrusion Welders:** Lesite, Weldy, Munsch (original developer of handheld extrusion)- **Hot Air Hand Tools:** For smaller fabrication work, detailed projects, or thinner plastics (e.g., Leister TRIAC ST, Leister HOT JET S)
Comparison Note
The Leister Fusion 3 Extrusion Welder is ideal for larger fabrication tasks and welding thicker plastic materials, offering significantly stronger and more consistent bonds in a single pass compared to hot air welding for such applications. While the Fusion series utilizes an open-loop control system for temperature, requiring more operator experience, it provides a high output volume and robust performance for demanding industrial environments. It is a powerful, site-ready tool designed for efficiency and durability in heavy-duty plastic welding.
