FLUOROLUBE® fluorinated greases deliver long-lasting reliable lubrication for metals and metallic surfaces in hazardous operations. Fluorolube excels in extremely harsh acidic, hot, flamable, explosive and/or oxidizing environments.
These PCTFE fluropolymer greases are transucent clear, fluorinated synthetic, non-reactive, non-flammable, safe in chemical and oxygen services and environments, fully saturated, hydrogen-free, low-molecular-weight greases made of Chlorotrifluoroethylene Polymer (PCTFE). They combine high-temperature performance, non-flammability and chemical inertness under many demanding conditions.
Available in a range of heat-resistant configurations for demanding conditions, FLUOROLUBE® greases are compatible with chlorine, oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, red fuming nitric acid and other strong oxidizing agents, and are nonflammable.

Thermal Stability:
Thermal stability of the FLUOROLUBE® Lubricants is between 300° and 600°F (150° - 315 °C) depending on the duration of heating and the materials of construction. Exposure to high temperatures will cause these products to depolymerize to lower molecular weight volatile compounds.
Thermal stability is affected by the presence of metals. High temperature uses of approximately 300 °F (150 °C) should be evaluated before field application.
FLUOROLUBE® Greases consist of about 80% combined fluorine and chlorine and are nonflammable.
Precautionary Information:
CAUTION: Do not use on copper, aluminum or magnesium parts. And especially when heavy friction or galling are possible for these metals.
Detonation can occur when FLUOROLUBE® Greases are allowed to contact these reactive metals free of their oxide coating in confined spaces and under heavy loads or high pressure.
FLUOROLUBE® Lubricants may react violently with sodium and potassium metals, amines, hydrazine, liquid fluorine and liquid chlorine trifluoride.
Due to their attack on the grease thickening agent, gaseous fluorine, hydrofluoric acid and caustic solutions are not recommended for use with FLUOROLUBE® Greases. But Fluorolube olis are just fine for use with these.
Product Name
FLUOROLUBE Greases - PCTFE Fluoropolymer Grease - Flame Resistant Corrosion Resistant Long Lasting Lubricants
Brief Description
FLUOROLUBE® greases are PCTFE (Polychlorotrifluoroethylene) fluoropolymer lubricants engineered for long-lasting, reliable performance in extremely harsh, hazardous, and demanding industrial environments. They are translucent clear, synthetic, non-reactive, non-flammable, and safe for use in chemical and oxygen services.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Lubrication of metals and metallic surfaces in hazardous operations.- Valves, seals, O-rings, and gaskets.- Bearings.- Cryogenic compressed gas systems and liquefied gas systems.- Oxygen and reactive gas service.- High-temperature machinery and applications (thermal stability between 150°C and 315°C).- Vacuum systems and precision instruments.- Electrical applications, including dielectric fluids, flexible printed circuits, and insulation.- Metalworking, including cutting and shaping hard-to-machine metals.- Hydraulic systems in extreme conditions.- Instrumentation fill fluids for gauges, pressure sensors, and diaphragm seals.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Chemical Industry- Energy (Nuclear Industry, Power Plants)- Aerospace/Defense- General Manufacturing- Medical Device/Prosthetics- Electrical Services or Products- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services (Cryogenics, Compressed Gases)- Metal Fabrication- Marine
Special and Unique Features
- Flame resistant and non-flammable.- Corrosion resistant.- Chemically inert and non-reactive with most chemicals, including strong acids, bases, oxidizing agents (chlorine, oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, red fuming nitric acid), and reactive gases.- Long-lasting lubrication.- High thermal stability, performing in high-temperature environments.- Excellent electrical resistance and water repulsion.- Low gas absorption and low water vapor transmission rate.- Hydrogen-free and fully saturated.- Non-toxic and safe to handle.
Key Properties
- Base Material: Polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) fluoropolymer.- Appearance: Translucent clear.- Thermal Stability: Between 150°C and 315°C (300°F and 600°F), depending on duration and materials.- Non-flammable: Yes, due to high fluorine and chlorine content.- Chemical Resistance: Excellent, resistant to most chemicals, oxidizing agents, acids, and bases.- Moisture Absorption: Near zero.- Low Vapor Pressure: Suitable for high-vacuum environments.- Low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (for unfilled fluoropolymer).- Radiation Resistance.
Surface Compatibility
- Compatible with metals and metallic surfaces.- Compatible with most plastics and elastomers.- Caution: Do NOT use on copper, aluminum, or magnesium parts, especially under heavy loads or friction, as it can cause detonation in confined spaces with these reactive metals.- Avoid contact with gaseous fluorine, hydrofluoric acid, caustic solutions (for greases, oils are fine), sodium, potassium metals, and amines.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Halocarbon's InfinX line (e.g., InfinX MRO 362, InfinX MRO 4.2, InfinX MRO 6.3) - also PCTFE-based.- Krytox (GPL, 143, 240, NRT series) - PFPE-based, often used in aerospace and ultra-high vacuum services.- PFPE (Perfluoropolyether) greases and oils.- Non-PFAS based alternatives like FUCHS RHEOLUBE 460P series (PAO greases) are being developed for applications traditionally using fluorinated lubricants.
Comparison Note
- FLUOROLUBE greases are a proven, cost-effective solution for corrosive chemical processing, valves, seals, and bearings, often offering better chemical resistance than similar formulas like Krytox in these specific environments.- While similar to PTFE, PCTFE has distinct advantages in certain applications due to its unique chlorine content, offering higher tensile strength, rigidity, and dimensional stability, with lower gas permeation and cold flow resistance.- PCTFE lubricants are uniquely suited for hazardous operations and highly demanding applications due to their non-flammable, non-toxic, non-reactive, and chemically inert characteristics.
