Dupont Molykote High Vacuum Grease (formerly known as Dow Corning Hi-Vac Grease) is a Silicone oil based High Vacuum Clear Grease that is water, chemical and temperature resistant.
This silicone grease is popular as a general use lubricate and is low cost in relation to many of the alternatives. HIVAC is commonly used for lubricating and preserving rubber parts as well as to grease artificial and silicone rubber used in a high-temperature application.
This stiff, non-melting silicone lubricating material is usable for 60 months from the date of production.
Features:
- Lubricates synthetic and silicone rubber gaskets, that require high-temperature rough-vacuum uses
- Inert/nonreactive to vegetable oils, mineral oils, and common gases, and resists most aqueous solutions of inorganic salts
- Popular with chemical plants, plug valves, flow meter bearings, ceramic plug cocks, water treatment equipment, and fire extinguisher valves

Brief Description
Dupont Molykote Hi-Vac Silicone Hi-Vacuum Clear Grease is a stiff, non-melting, silicone-based lubricating grease specifically formulated for sealing and lubricating vacuum and pressure systems, as well as for high-temperature applications. It offers excellent resistance to water, chemicals, and maintains its consistency across a wide temperature range.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Sealing and lubricating O-rings, stopcocks, and valves in vacuum equipment.- Lubricating laboratory glassware, distillation systems, and freeze-drying apparatus.- Sealing and lubricating chemical processing equipment.- Lubricating plug valves, control valves, flow meter bearings, and ceramic plug cocks.- Lubricating water-treating equipment.- Lubricating synthetic rubber gaskets and seals in high-temperature applications.- Preventing fogging of delicate lenses and lubricating O-rings in binoculars and telescopes.- Used in high-purity processes in medical and semiconductor industries.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Chemical Industry- Colleges & Universities (for laboratory and research applications)- Food & Beverage Company or Distributor- General Manufacturing- Industrial Supply- LED/Electronics- Medical Device/ Prosthetics
Special and Unique Features
- Stiff, non-melting silicone lubricating material.- Low volatility, making it ideal for vacuum and high-purity applications.- Excellent resistance to water, chemicals, mineral oils, common gases, and organic compounds.- Maintains consistency over a wide temperature range (-40°C to +204°C).- Reduces wear in plastic-to-metal and rubber-to-metal contact.- Meets requirements of FDA 21 CFR 175.300.- Contains no intentional polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Key Properties
- Product Type: MOLYKOTE® Compound, Silicone Technology.- NLGI Grade: 3-4.- Thickener: Silica (inorganic).- Color: Translucent White / Clear.- Temperature Range: -40°C to +204°C (-40°F to +400°F).- Max Vacuum Level: 1x10E-8 Torr (recommended for vacuums between 1 x 10-5 and 1 x 10-6 mm Hg).- Usable life: 60 months from date of production when stored at or below 30°C.
Surface Compatibility
- Compatible with most metals and elastomers.- Safe for use on plastics, elastomers, and sensitive materials.- Lubricates synthetic and silicone rubber gaskets and seals.- Not recommended for use with silicone elastomers (specifically fluorosilicone "O" rings and gaskets) or as a lubricant in metal bearings.- Not recommended for surfaces that are to be painted.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease (formerly known as Dow Corning Hi-Vac Grease, considered same quality).- Apiezon greases (L, M) - hydrocarbon-based, suitable for specific vacuum levels or when silicone is not appropriate.- Krytox LVP - for higher temperature and lower vacuum applications, offering good solvent resistance.- Klüberalfa GR Y VAC 3.- Braycote greases - fluorocarbon-based, recommended for LOX compatibility or metal bearings.
Comparison Note
Dupont Molykote High Vacuum Grease exhibits higher stability at the upper end of its temperature range compared to hydrocarbon greases like Apiezon M. However, its initial room temperature pump-down characteristics may involve a longer out-gassing period. It is often considered a cost-effective alternative among various high-vacuum greases.
