Product Name
DEVCON Silite RTV Silicone in White, Clear or Red (#17140, 17150, 17100, 17130)
Brief Description
DEVCON Silite RTV Silicone is a single-component, room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone-based adhesive/sealant designed for versatile sealing, bonding, gasketing, and weatherproofing applications. It cures at room temperature to a flexible silicone rubber.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Sealing panels and window plates.- Bonding and sealing appliance ports.- Attaching brackets, nameplates, and ceramic tile.- Making form-in-place gaskets, particularly in HVAC and automotive engines.- Weatherproofing electrical components and insulating exposed wiring.- Caulking plumbing fixtures, sinks, showers, and tubs.- Sealing glass and exterior joints.- Molding and casting for reproducing fine details.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Electrical Services or Products- Food & Beverage Company or Distributor- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Mold Making/ Casting- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Prosumer- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Single-component, ready-to-use formula.- Cures at room temperature to a flexible silicone rubber.- Excellent resistance to a wide range of weather and temperatures ranging from -60°F to 450°F.- Acceptable for use in meat and poultry plants; NSF certified for food equipment.- Qualifies under MIL-A-46106A.- Electrically insulating properties.- Low shrinkage on cure and excellent gap-filling capabilities.
Key Properties
- **Type:** Single-component RTV Silicone Sealant.- **Cure System:** Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) by reaction with atmospheric moisture.- **Temperature Range:** -60°F to 450°F (-51°C to 232°C).- **Physical Form:** Paste (non-sag gel).- **Colors:** White, Clear, Red.- **Hardness:** Approximately 25-30 Shore A.- **Tensile Strength:** 400 psi.- **Elongation at Break:** 600%.- **Odor:** Vinegar (acetic acid byproduct during cure).- **Dielectric Strength:** 375 volts/mil.
Surface Compatibility
- Metal- Glass- Porcelain- Ceramic- Wood- Plastic- Rubbers- Tile
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other RTV silicone sealants (e.g., Loctite 595, Permatex, Elring Dirko RTV).- MS Polymer sealants.- Polyurethane sealants.- Hybrid sealants (combining polyurethane and silicone chemistry).
Comparison Note
DEVCON Silite RTV Silicone is an acetoxy-cure silicone, releasing acetic acid (vinegar odor) during curing. While it offers excellent adhesion, particularly to metals and glass, alternatives like MS polymers and polyurethanes may offer higher performance in some cases, with MS polymers being a good low-odor option. Hybrid sealants combine benefits of both.
