Product Name
Devcon 11730 Ceramic Repair Compound Smooth, Trowelable, Alumina-filled Epoxy 32lb can
Brief Description
A high-performance, smooth, and trowelable alumina-filled epoxy compound specifically formulated for rebuilding, smoothing, and protecting processing equipment. It provides excellent resistance against corrosion, erosion, cavitation, chemicals, and acids, and is suitable for filling voids and rebuilding metal castings.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Rebuilding worn pump casings and suction plates.- Repairing tube sheets, heat exchangers, and other circulating water equipment.- Restoring worn chutes and hoppers.- Repairing and rebuilding butterfly and gate valves.- Protecting processing equipment exposed to corrosion, erosion, cavitation, chemicals, and acids.- Filling voids and rebuilding metal castings.- Repairs in power plants, pulp and paper mills, chemical and water treatment plants.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Chemical Industry- Energy- General Manufacturing- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Industrial Supply- Distributers & Resellers
Special and Unique Features
- Smooth, trowelable consistency.- Alumina-filled for enhanced wear resistance.- Non-sagging, creamy putty formulation, allowing for vertical or overhead repairs up to 12mm thick without sagging.- Excellent chemical resistance.- Outstanding wear and erosion resistance.- Can be machined, drilled, or painted after full cure.- Can be heat-cured for maximum physical properties.
Key Properties
- Chemical Base: Epoxy- Color: Dark Blue- Mixed Viscosity: Putty- Working Life (Pot Life): 25 minutes at 24°C (75°F)- Cure Time: 16 hours for 75% cure at room temperature (24°C)- Maximum Operating Temperature: Up to 350°F (176°C) dry, 65°C wet.- Tensile Strength: 2000 psi- Shore Hardness: 90 Shore D- Compressive Strength: 87.6 MPa (ASTM D695)- Adhesive Tensile Shear: 13.8 MPa (ASTM D 1002)- Cured Density: 1.69 gm/cc- Cured Shrinkage: 0.0022 cm/cm- Shelf Life: 3 years when stored in original sealed containers.- Mix Ratio (Resin to Hardener): 7:1 by weight, 4.3:1 by volume.
Surface Compatibility
- Primarily designed for metal surfaces.- Requires thorough cleaning (oil, grease, dirt removal) with a cleaner like Devcon® Cleaner Blend 300.- Surfaces must be roughened, ideally by grit blasting (8-40 mesh grit) or grinding, to create a 3-5 mil profile for better adhesion.- For metals exposed to seawater or salt solutions, specific cleaning procedures (high-pressure water blasting, chloride contamination test) are recommended.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other Devcon wear and abrasion resistant epoxy coatings (e.g., Devcon DFense Blok, Devcon Brushable Ceramic, Devcon Ceramic Repair System).- General industrial ceramic-filled epoxy repair compounds from other manufacturers.
Comparison Note
Devcon 11730 Ceramic Repair Compound stands out as a high-performance, trowelable, alumina-filled epoxy specifically engineered for severe industrial environments. Its non-sagging property and excellent resistance to a broad range of aggressive elements (corrosion, erosion, cavitation, chemicals, acids) make it a robust solution for critical equipment repair and protection, offering a long service life compared to general-purpose fillers.
