Product Name
SynthoGlass Silicone Tape for adhering Compression Film and other wrapping material (Red) #ST500 1-inch x 10-feet
Brief Description
This is a self-fusing silicone rubber tape designed to create a strong, waterproof, and airtight seal without adhesive. It is particularly useful for adhering compression film and other wrapping materials, often in conjunction with composite repair systems like SynthoGlass, or for general-purpose emergency repairs, insulation, and sealing applications.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Emergency pipe and hose repair (leaks, cracks)- Electrical insulation and sealing of connections- Waterproofing and sealing various surfaces and connections- Securing compression film over composite repairs- Corrosion protection- Tool handle grips and sports equipment wraps- Marine applications (rigging, hose repair, waterproofing)- Automotive repairs (radiator hoses, wiring)
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Construction/ Building Services- Electrical Services or Products- Energy- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- Industrial Supply- Marine- Petroleum Industry, Products or Services- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Self-fusing: Bonds to itself without adhesive, creating a seamless, permanent seal.- Adhesive-free: Leaves no sticky residue upon removal.- Creates air and water-tight seals.- Highly conformable and flexible, stretching around irregular shapes.- Resistant to extreme temperatures, UV, chemicals, and weathering.- Insulating properties (high dielectric strength).- Can be applied to wet or dirty surfaces without impacting performance.- Red color for visibility or specific coding.
Key Properties
- Material: Self-fusing silicone rubber- Temperature Resistance: Wide range, typically from -65°F to 500°F (-50°C to 260°C)- Dielectric Strength: High, e.g., up to 8,000 Volts or 25 kV/mm- Elongation: High, e.g., 535%- Tensile Strength: Good, e.g., 36.5 N/10 mm- UV, Ozone, Chemical, and Moisture Resistant- Non-conductive- Non-toxic, non-combustible, odorless (for SynthoGlass composite, likely applies to related silicone tape)
Surface Compatibility
- Bonds to itself (silicone to silicone).- Can be applied to various substrates for sealing and protection, including: - Metals (copper, steel, stainless steel) - Plastics (PVC, FRP) - Rubber - Clay, Concrete - Other wrapping materials and compression films.- Effective even on wet or dirty surfaces.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other brands of self-fusing silicone tape (e.g., Rescue Tape, XFasten, 3M Wrap & Repair Silicone Tape)- Traditional electrical tape (for insulation, but not self-fusing or as durable)- Duct tape or other adhesive tapes (for temporary repairs, but leave residue and lack specific properties)- Pipe repair clamps or patches (for leaks, but less versatile)- Potting compounds (for electrical sealing, but more complex application)- For pipe repair specifically, other composite repair systems or traditional welding/soldering
Comparison Note
Unlike traditional adhesive tapes, SynthoGlass Silicone Tape creates a permanent, residue-free, air and water-tight seal by fusing to itself under tension, offering superior durability, temperature resistance, and dielectric strength. Its self-fusing nature allows for application on wet or dirty surfaces, a significant advantage over adhesive-based alternatives. While general self-fusing silicone tapes offer similar properties, this product, branded SynthoGlass, may be specifically formulated or intended for use within comprehensive composite repair systems, particularly for adhering compression film to ensure optimal curing and performance of underlying repairs.
