ARALDITE 2053 adhesive ensures durable, reliable bonding for most common substrates even in the harshest conditions. The resulting bond resists aging and fatigue, with an elongation rate of more than 50% and a high resistance to hot and wet environments. By distributing stress uniformly over bonded areas, ARALDITE
2053 adhesive helps maintain physical integrity while enabling lightweight design. With an optimal open time, and virtually no need for pre-treatment, you can achieve faster production cycles and increased throughput. This all-in-one solution can also help you simplify your inventory and processes, including worker training.

Pretreatment
The strength and durability of a bonded joint are dependent on proper treatment of the surfaces to be bonded. At the very least, joint surfaces should be cleaned with a good degreasing agent such as acetone, isopropanol (for plastics) or other proprietary degreasing agents in order to remove all traces of oil, grease and dirt. Low-grade alcohol, gasoline, or paint thinners should never be used. The strongest and most durable joints are obtained by either mechanically abrading or chemically etching (“pickling”) the degreased surfaces. Abrading should be followed by a second degreasing treatment.
Available in cartridges incorporating mixers and can be applied as ready to use adhesive with the aid of the tool recommended by Huntsman Advanced Materials.
Applying / Using the Adhesive
This system is available in cartridges incorporating mixers and can be applied as ready to use adhesive with the aid of the tool recommended by Huntsman Advanced Materials. The resin/hardener mix may be applied manually or robotically to the pretreated and dry joint surfaces. Huntsman's technical support group can assist the user in the selection of a suitable application method as well as suggest a variety of reputable companies that manufacture and service adhesive dispensing equipment. A layer of adhesive 0.25 mm thick will normally impart the greatest lap shear strength to the joint. The joint components should be assembled and secured in a fixed position as soon as the adhesive has been applied. For more detailed explanations regarding surface preparation and pretreatment, adhesive joint design, and the dual cartridge dispensing system, visit www.aralditeadhesives.com.
Temperature of application / use
The recommended temperature application (putting it on) range is 50°F to 104°F.
WARNING! The cure reaction can generate a high amount of heat, it is not recommended to mix large amounts of material at room temperature
Storage
ARALDITE 2053-05 Structural Adhesive should be stored in a dry place, in the original sealed containers, at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F). Under these storage conditions, the product has a shelf life of 18 months (from date of manufacture). The product should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The product may be placed at room temperature before use, but the total time at room temperature should not exceed 9 months. Long term exposure above 25°C (77°F) will reduce the shelf life of the product.
For additional information, consult the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Product Name
- Araldite 2053-5 & 2053-15: 5 & 15-minute Acrylic (MMA) Adhesive
Brief Description
- Araldite 2053 is a two-part, toughened methacrylate (MMA) adhesive system designed for structural bonding applications.- It is formulated to provide durable and reliable bonds, even in harsh conditions, by combining high elongation at break with excellent resistance to aging, weathering, temperature, and chemicals.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding of metals, composites, and plastics, particularly in dynamic applications.- Bonding of boat fittings and structural interiors.- Bonding magnets in loudspeakers, transformers, and electric motors.- Assembly of panels for trucks and construction equipment, including side, roof, and door panels, and aerodynamic components.- Applications requiring resistance to e-coating and powder coating processes.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle- General Manufacturing- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Marine- Energy (e.g., wind industry, as part of Huntsman's broader portfolio)- Construction/ Building Services (e.g., architectural cladding, construction equipment)- LED/Electronics (e.g., bonding magnets)- Automotive Service/Repair (as part of Huntsman's broader portfolio)- Aerospace/Defense (as part of Huntsman's broader portfolio)
Special and Unique Features
- Excellent aging and weathering resistance.- Exceptional high elongation at break, typically >50-60%.- Resistant to sustained temperatures up to 100°C (212°F) and temperature spikes up to 200°C (392-440°F).- Compatible with e-coating and powder coating post-cure processes.- Requires minimal surface pre-treatment.- Capable of curing completely underwater, in high moisture, and high humidity conditions.- Thixotropic gel consistency, making it non-sagging, non-dripping, and non-running.- High resistance to hot and wet conditions, as well as hot/cold cycles.
