Quality Aerosols Lacquer QUA01477 Thinner - 5 Gal
Product Name
Quality Aerosols Lacquer QUA01477 Thinner - 5 Gal
Brief Description
A strong, fast-acting solvent blend primarily used for thinning lacquer-based paints and as a heavy-duty cleaning agent for various industrial and professional applications. It effectively dissolves lacquers, resins, oils, greases, and adhesives.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Thinning lacquer-based paints and varnishes to achieve desired viscosity for brushing or spraying- Cleaning paint brushes, spray guns, and other lacquer application tools and equipment- Removing dried paints, varnishes, and tough stains from various surfaces- Dissolving and removing inks and adhesive residues- Cleaning oily surfaces, tools, engines, and machinery, including tar and grease removal- Automotive refinishing and cleaning auto parts- Wood finishing and furniture coatings
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- Cabinet & Woodworking- Chemical Industry- Construction/ Building Services- Furniture- General Manufacturing- Industrial Supply- Metal Fabrication- Printing- Prosumer- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Strong liquid thinner and solvent, more powerful than paint thinner- Acts quickly and aggressively to dissolve lacquers and other oil-based coatings- High solvency power and fast evaporation rate- Improves flow and leveling of lacquer, ensuring a smooth, streak-free, high-gloss finish- Composed of a mixture of solvents (e.g., acetone, butyl acetate, toluene, xylene, methyl ethyl ketone, amyl or ethyl acetate)- Effective against tough substances like inks and adhesives
Key Properties
- Strong solvent capabilities- High solvency- Fast evaporation rate- Highly flammable- Produces harmful fumes and strong odor; requires good ventilation- Can soften cured, dried lacquers and other oil-based coatings- Mixture of various organic solvents
Surface Compatibility
- Excellent for thinning and cleaning lacquer-based paints and varnishes- Effective on smooth surfaces for removing dried paint and varnish- Can be used on natural fibers to remove varnish stains and paint spots- **Caution:** Can damage plastic and rubber- **Caution:** Can strip car paint- **Caution:** Generally too caustic for oil paints and may cause cracks in the sheen of the surface- **Caution:** Avoid using on nylon brushes as it can weaken synthetic bristles
Known backups / known substitutes
- **For thinning oil-based paints/varnishes (but not lacquers):** Mineral spirits, turpentine, kerosene, VMP Naphtha- **For cleaning (with caution):** Acetone (can soften or deform styrene plastic)- **For specific applications:** Specialized paint thinners (e.g., for enamels)- **Environmentally friendly alternatives (for general thinning/cleaning, not specifically lacquer):** Citrus-based thinners
Comparison Note
- Lacquer thinner is significantly stronger and faster-acting than paint thinner (mineral spirits)- Lacquer thinner is designed specifically for lacquers, while paint thinner is for oil-based paints, stains, and varnishes; they are generally not interchangeable- Lacquer thinner evaporates quickly with little or no residue, whereas paint thinner has a longer drying time and may leave a slight oily residue- Lacquer thinner is typically more expensive and more flammable than paint thinner- Both are hazardous and require proper ventilation and safety gear, but lacquer thinner is more poisonous and flammable
