Plastic Bonding Performance
The adhesive provides strong bonds to plastics, often resulting in substrate failure, which indicates that the adhesive bond is stronger than the material itself.
-
Lap Shear Strength (ASTM D1002):
-
LDPE: 350+ psi (Substrate Failure)
-
ABS: 950+ psi (Substrate Failure)
-
HDPE: 1100 psi (Substrate Failure)
-
PP: 1100 psi (Substrate Failure)
-
Polycarbonate: 850 psi (Adhesive Failure)
-
PVC: 2050 psi (Substrate Failure)
-
HIPS: 550 psi (Substrate Failure)
-
Handling and Storage
For optimal shelf life, store in original, unopened containers at or below 5°C (41°F). The product has a shelf life of six months from the date of shipment. Allow the adhesive to reach room temperature for 24 hours before use for best results.
Product Name
- Maven MMA8005 Polyolefin Bonder (Bonds Polyethylene, Polypropylene& Nylon) High Strength MMA Adhesive
Brief Description
- The Maven MMA8005 is a two-part, high-strength structural acrylic adhesive specifically formulated to bond difficult-to-adhere low surface energy (LSE) plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and nylon, often without the need for extensive surface preparation. It is designed to provide durable, reliable bonds that frequently result in substrate failure, indicating a bond stronger than the material itself.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Attaching trim, moldings, and decorative plastic components in automotive interiors and exteriors.- Structural bonding of advanced materials and lightweight components.- Assembly of plastic parts in general manufacturing.- Bonding magnets for items like loudspeakers and electric motors.- Repairing plastic components in vehicles, boats, and household items.- Assembly of signage and display elements.- Bonding fiberglass and composite materials in marine applications.- Joining aluminum, steel, or powder-coated parts, especially in mixed-material assemblies.- EV battery pack sealing, sports equipment manufacture, electronics, and sensors.- Profile, pultrusion, and stiffener bonding.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/Building Services- Fabrication (especially plastic and composite fabrication)- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- Industrial Supply & Distributers & Resellers- LED/Electronics- Marine- Medical Device/Prosthetics- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Sign & Display- Transportation/Specialty Vehicle- Thermoforming
Special and Unique Features
- Bonds low surface energy (LSE) plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and TPO with minimal or no surface preparation.- High strength performance, often leading to substrate failure rather than adhesive failure.- Fast and efficient with a 10:1 mix ratio, offering a working time of 2 to 5 minutes and achieving handling strength in 3 hours at room temperature.- Excellent resistance to common chemicals, including gasoline, toluene, and pump oil.- Can bond dissimilar materials effectively.- Good environmental resistance, including temperature swings, vibration, and chemical resistance.- Minimal bond shrinkage.- Less brittle than epoxies, offering good impact and peel strength.- Gap-filling ability to accommodate irregular surfaces.

Known backups / known substitutes
- 3M DP8005 Polyolefin Bonder- Scigrip SG400 LSE Polyolefin Bonder- Permabond TA4600 series Polyolefin Bonders (e.g., TA4605, TA4610)- Infinity Bond MMA 500 (for difficult plastics like PE and PP)- Loctite AA 3035 acrylic glue (for PE and PP)- Cyanoacrylates with special primers (e.g., Permabond POP Primer) for PE/PP, though typically for smaller bond areas and lower impact strength.- Certain flexible epoxies (if surface treated with flame, plasma, or corona treatment).
Comparison Note
- MMA adhesives like Maven MMA8005 offer a balance of high strength, rapid cure speed, and flexibility, making them suitable for demanding applications where parts need to be handled quickly.- They generally require minimal surface preparation compared to epoxies or polyurethanes, which often need extensive cleaning, abrading, or priming.- While epoxies can achieve higher ultimate tensile and shear strengths and superior chemical/heat resistance, MMAs provide better impact and peel strength, are less brittle, and tolerate slight mix inaccuracies better.- Compared to urethanes, MMAs have higher bond strength on a broader range of materials, especially plastics and metals, cure faster, and are generally less sensitive to moisture or surface contamination.- The ability to bond low surface energy plastics without pre-treatment is a significant advantage over many other adhesive technologies.
