Directions of applications
Wipe off and decrease the surface to be bonded. Use the gloves to avoid skin contact. Dispense a desirable amount of adhesive using a dispensing dispenser. The nozzle sizes can be selected according to the desired bond thickness. Join the substrates with the specified work-life of this material and allow it to cure at room temperature. Do not disturb the parts during the curing process. Excess adhesive can be wiped off. (For optimum strengths, surface preparation for the metals like sandblast, etching will be needed).
Safety and handling
Wear safety glasses and gloves. Harmful if swallowed. Keep it away from heat, flames. Keep out of reach of children. Once used keep the containers closed.
Storage and shelf life
Store this product in a tightly closed container in a cool and well-ventilated area. Product should not be frozen. Keep it away from any source of heat. Store the material in between 51℉ to 75℉. Continuous exposure above 75℃ will reduce the shelf life.
Product Name
- Maven MMA 3002 Acrylic Natural-Straw color - Ultra-Fast Set 2-3 Min MMA Adhesive-1:1 ratio
Brief Description
- The Maven MMA 3002 is a two-part, ultra-fast setting methacrylate (MMA) adhesive designed for structural bonding of various metals, plastics, and composites. It cures rapidly at room temperature, forming strong, durable bonds with excellent shear, peel, and impact resistance.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding of advanced materials, often serving as an alternative to welding or riveting.- Bonding metal, concrete, and other materials in construction projects.- Attaching panels, brackets, and for general metal bonding in the automotive and transport sectors.- Bonding fiberglass and composite materials in marine applications.- Installation of flooring, particularly in high-traffic environments.- Joining aluminum, steel, or powder-coated parts in metal fabrication.- Bonding acrylic panels, frames, and metal supports for signage and displays.- Bonding magnets for components such as loudspeakers and electric motors.- Applications in heavy trucks, rail vehicles, buses, agricultural, and construction machinery, including bumpers, deflectors, roofs, blades, composite tanks, vehicle seats, interior body panel structures, and instrument panels.- Bonding composite flooring to wood floors.- Adhering solid surface countertops.- Bonding aluminum composite panels to building structures.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Cladding- Construction/ Building Services- Countertop- Fabrication (Metal, Plastic, Composite)- Flooring Installer or Manufacturer- General Manufacturing- Industrial Supply- Marine- Sign & Display- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Ultra-fast set time of 2-3 minutes.- Achieves handling strength (fixture time) in approximately 6 minutes.- Often requires minimal to no surface preparation or primer for many substrates.- Tolerant of minor surface contaminations, such as oil.- Capable of bonding dissimilar materials effectively.- High strength performance, making it a viable alternative to mechanical fastening methods like welding or riveting.- Incorporates a rubber toughening system that provides flexibility to accommodate differential thermal expansion, contraction, and thermal shock.- Offers excellent impact resistance and high peel strength.- Possesses good gap-filling capabilities.- Exhibits good resistance to various environmental factors, including temperature fluctuations, vibration, and chemicals.- Characterized by low shrinkage during cure.- Electrically insulating (non-conductive).
Key Properties
- Adhesive Type: Two-part Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Acrylic Adhesive- Mix Ratio: 1:1- Color: Natural-Straw (also available in White and Black)- Set Time (Open Time): Ultra-Fast, 2-3 minutes- Handling Strength (Fixture Time): Achieved in 6 minutes- Cure: Cures at room temperature- Bond Strength: Provides high shear, peel, and impact resistance. Lap shear strength can reach up to 20 MPa (equivalent to 20 Kg of force per square millimeter).- Chemical Resistance: Excellent resistance to hydrocarbons, acids, and bases; however, it is susceptible to polar solvents.- Temperature Resistance: Maintains good strength performance across a wide temperature range, typically from -40 °C to 120 °C.- Viscosity (uncured material at 25°C): Resin: 50,000 - 80,000 cP; Activator: 40,000 - 90,000 cP.- Specific Gravity (uncured material): Resin: 0.99; Activator: 0.96.
Surface Compatibility
- Metals: Including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanized steel.- Plastics: Such as acrylics, ABS, polycarbonates, PVC, and various thermoplastics and composites.- Composites: Including fiberglass, carbon fiber, unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, gel-coat, sheet molding compound, and epoxy.- Glass.- Wood.- Magnets.- Concrete.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other MMA adhesive formulations with similar properties from brands like Plexus (e.g., MA300, MA330, MA590, MA2045), Araldite (e.g., 2021-1, 2022-1, 2023 series, 2051, 2053), Devcon Plastic Welder, SciGrip (e.g., SG230HV, SG300), Permabond (e.g., TA4660, TA4550), and UltraLok (e.g., 420-1, 421GB, 422GB as alternatives to 3M DP8405NS, DP8410NS, DP8425NS).- While not direct substitutes with identical properties, other structural adhesive categories like epoxy adhesives and cyanoacrylates can be considered depending on specific application requirements, though they have different characteristics.- Bio-based monomers such as isobornyl methacrylate (IBOMA) and tetrahydrogeraniol acrylate (THGA) are being researched as potential sustainable alternatives to MMA in certain acrylic latex pressure sensitive adhesives, but direct substitution may require formulation adjustments.
Comparison Note
- MMA adhesives generally offer significantly higher peel strength, better temperature resistance, and faster strength development compared to many epoxy adhesives.- They are typically less brittle and provide greater flexibility and toughness than epoxies, which helps prevent cracking under impact or vibration.- MMAs are more tolerant of slight inaccuracies in mixing ratios compared to epoxies and polyurethanes.- In contrast, epoxy adhesives can achieve higher ultimate lap shear strengths (up to 30 MPa) compared to MMAs (up to 20 MPa) and often exhibit superior heat resistance (up to 200°C) and resistance to a broader range of chemicals.- Polyurethane adhesives typically achieve strengths up to 15 MPa, while MS polymers reach up to 5 MPa.- MMA adhesives are known for a stronger odor and are flammable, which are considerations compared to some other adhesive types.- The curing process of MMAs can involve a high exothermic reaction temperature, which requires careful consideration for applications involving large bond line thicknesses (exceeding 15mm) or heat-sensitive substrates.
