Description
Weld-On® 31 is a medium-speed, two-part structural acrylic adhesive designed for reliable bonding of metals, plastics, and composites. With a 13–17 minute working time and 30–40 minute fixture time, it offers more flexibility than fast-curing adhesives like Weld-On 30 — making it ideal for larger sign and display assemblies.
Once cured, Weld-On 31 provides exceptional durability against impact, fatigue, corrosion, and chemicals, maintaining bond integrity even in extreme temperatures from -40°F to 180°F (-40°C to 82°C).
Key Features & Benefits
-
Medium-Speed Cure – Longer working time for larger assemblies.
-
High Strength Bonds – Up to 2,400–2,800 psi lap shear on metals.
-
Primerless Metal Bonding – Bonds aluminum, CRS, stainless steel, and coated metals.
-
Excellent Adhesion to Plastics – PVC, ABS, acrylic (PMMA), polycarbonate.
-
Composite Compatibility – Strong bonds with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester laminates.
-
Gap-Filling Capabilities – Ideal for uneven surfaces.
-
Non-Sag Formula – Suitable for vertical and overhead bonding.
-
UL 746C Approved – Certified for indoor and outdoor electrical signage.
Common Applications
-
Sign and display fabrication requiring medium open time
-
Electrical signage assemblies (UL 746C certified)
-
Bonding unprepared metals, coated metals, and composites
-
Industrial manufacturing where durability and workability are critical

Call to Action
For sign and display projects that require more working time without compromising strength, Weld-On® 31 is the adhesive of choice.
🔧 Popular Use Cases of Weld-On 31
1. Sign & Display Fabrication (Primary Use Case)
- Widely used for channel letters, dimensional signage, and retail displays
- Ideal for:Mounting acrylic faces to framesBonding trim caps and lighting componentsAssembling display cases and POP fixtures
- Chosen because it offers high strength + weather resistance for indoor/outdoor signage
👉 This is the #1 market for this product.
2. Bonding Dissimilar Materials
- Designed specifically to bond different substrates together, such as:Metals (aluminum, stainless steel, coated metals)Plastics (PVC, ABS, polycarbonate, acrylic)Composites (epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester)
👉 Common in fabrication shops where mixed materials are used.
3. Industrial Assembly & Fabrication
- Used in manufacturing for:General product assemblyStructural bonding applicationsFabrication of panels and housings
- Works well due to:Gap-filling abilityStrong impact and fatigue resistance
👉 Especially useful when parts don’t fit perfectly flush.
4. Electrical & Equipment Enclosures
- Approved for electrical equipment assemblies (UL 746C)
- Used in:Control panelsEnclosuresOutdoor electrical signage
👉 Key benefit: maintains bond under temperature extremes and environmental exposure.
5. Outdoor & Harsh Environment Applications
- Performs reliably in:Extreme temperatures (-40°F to 180°F)Exposure to chemicals and corrosion
👉 Common in:
- Exterior signage
- Transportation or industrial environments
- Marine-adjacent applications (where durability matters)
6. Repair & Retrofit Work
- Used for:Fixing cracked plastic componentsReinforcing joints in mixed-material assemblies
- Works well because it bonds to unprepared or coated surfaces
👉 Saves time by reducing surface prep requirements.
💡 Why It’s Popular for These Uses
Across all applications, Weld-On 31 is chosen because it offers:
- Strong structural bonds in minutes
- Compatibility with many materials
- Gap-filling capability (for imperfect fits)
- Long-term durability under stress and weather
