Plexus® PC-120 Cleaner Conditioner is a fast-drying surface treatment designed to improve the long-term durability of Plexus adhesive bonds on aluminum and stainless steel assemblies. It cleans light surface contaminants while leaving behind active ingredients that help bonded metal structures resist exposure to water and saltwater environments.
PC-120 can be applied by wiping, brushing, or spraying. Its red dye provides a visual application indicator—a light, even red tint shows that enough product has been applied. Once dry, the prepared parts are ready for bonding, typically within 1 to 3 minutes under ambient conditions.
Key Features
-
Improves the long-term durability of aluminum and stainless steel bonds
-
Cleans metal surfaces before adhesive application
-
Helps bonded assemblies resist long-term saltwater exposure
-
Fast drying at ambient temperatures
-
Apply by wiping, brushing, or spraying
-
Red tint helps confirm complete and even coverage
-
May replace routine solvent cleaning in many applications
-
Requires only a thin, even film
Recommended Applications
Use Plexus PC-120 to prepare:
-
Aluminum
-
Stainless steel
-
Metal assemblies exposed to water, humidity, or saltwater
-
Surfaces being bonded with compatible Plexus structural adhesives
Compatible Plexus Adhesives
Recommended for use with the following Plexus adhesives when bonding metals:
MA300, MA310, MA320, MA420, MA425, MA530, MA550, MA560-1, MA590, MA830, MA832, MA920.
Application Instructions
-
Remove excess oil and visible contaminants with a clean cloth.
-
Apply PC-120 in a thin, even layer by wiping, brushing, or spraying.
-
Confirm that a light red tint is visible across the bonding area.
-
Allow the cleaner conditioner to dry before applying adhesive.
-
Bond the parts within the specified working time of the selected Plexus adhesive.
Do not apply a heavy or deep-red coating. Excess product may reduce bond performance. PC-120 should be used as a cleaner conditioner rather than as a thick-film primer.

Safety and Handling
Danger: Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Causes serious eye irritation and may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, hot surfaces, and other ignition sources. Keep the container tightly closed and wear appropriate protective gloves and eye or face protection. Review the Safety Data Sheet before handling or use.
Storage
Store tightly closed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location away from direct sunlight, heat, sparks, open flames, strong oxidizers, acids, chlorine, and isocyanates. The stated shelf life is 12 months when stored unopened between 59°F and 86°F.
Important Use Note
Always test the selected adhesive and substrate combination under anticipated service conditions before production use. Product performance can vary depending on surface condition, application method, storage, handling, and operating environment.
Product Name
PLEXUS PC120 - 1 quart Bottle Primer/Conditioner IP120
Brief Description
Plexus PC120 is a low-viscosity chemical primer and conditioner designed to significantly improve the long-term durability and strength of Plexus adhesive bonds, particularly when applied to aluminum and stainless steel assemblies. This product also functions as an effective cleaner, removing contaminants from metal surfaces and often eliminating the need for routine solvent cleaning.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Pre-treatment of aluminum and stainless steel parts before bonding with Plexus methacrylate adhesives.- Enhancing the long-term bond durability of metal assemblies, especially in environments exposed to water and salt.- Cleaning metal surfaces to remove oils and contaminants, often replacing conventional solvent cleaning steps.- Structural bonding applications in the marine industry, such as bonding stringers and inserts in fiberglass boats.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/Building Services- Fabrication- General Manufacturing- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Transportation/Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Improves the long-term bond durability of aluminum and stainless steel assemblies.- Fast-drying at ambient temperatures, allowing parts to be bonded within 1 to 3 minutes after application.- Acts as a cleaner for metal surfaces, potentially replacing routine solvent cleaning.- Contains a red dye to provide visual confirmation of proper and even application.- Formulated to resist long-term exposure to salt water, enhancing bond strength in harsh conditions.- Low viscosity liquid for easy application by wiping, brushing, or spraying.
Key Properties
- Chemical primer and conditioner.- Low viscosity liquid.- Fast drying (1-3 minutes at ambient temperature).- Contains a red dye for application visibility.- Flammable liquid and vapor.- Shelf life of 12 to 13 months in unopened containers when stored between 60-80°F (15-26°C).- Coverage is approximately 250 square feet per pint (or about 50 sqm/L, 27 m²/500ml).- Solvent-based chemistry.
Surface Compatibility
- Aluminum- Stainless Steel- Recommended for use with all Plexus adhesives when bonding these specific metals.
Known backups / known substitutes
Direct chemical substitutes with the exact same conditioning properties for Plexus adhesives on aluminum and stainless steel were not explicitly identified in the search results. However, some Plexus adhesives, such as the MA200, MA800, and MA8000 Series, are designed to bond metal to metal without the need for a primer. For general surface preparation, solvents like IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) or Acetone are used, particularly for heavily oxidized metals, but these do not offer the specific conditioning benefits of PC120.
Comparison Note
Plexus PC120 is specifically formulated to optimize the performance of Plexus brand methacrylate adhesives on aluminum and stainless steel. It serves a dual role as both a cleaner and a chemical conditioner, significantly improving bond durability and resistance to harsh environmental factors like salt water exposure. This product streamlines the bonding process by often replacing the need for separate solvent cleaning steps, ensuring a robust and long-lasting adhesive joint.
