Product Name
PLEXUS MA425 Two-part Methacrylate 50 Gallon Drum Adhesive IT150
Brief Description
Plexus MA425 is a two-part methacrylate adhesive specifically engineered for the structural bonding of thermoplastic, metal, and composite assemblies. This adhesive is recognized for its exceptional fatigue endurance, outstanding impact resistance, and superior toughness, often requiring minimal to virtually no surface preparation.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding of composite body panels in transportation (buses, trucks, rail, RVs).- Bonding of interior panels, floors, and light assemblies in various vehicles.- Marine applications, including bonding fiberglass and other composite materials.- Joining aluminum, stainless steel, raw steel, and painted/coated metals.- Bonding various thermoplastics such as ABS, PMMA, polyester, PVC, polyurethane, PDCPD, gelcoat, fiberglass, SMC, and laminates.- General industrial assembly where strong, durable bonds are required.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/ Building Services- Distributers & Resellers- Fabrication- General Manufacturing- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Requires minimal to virtually no surface preparation, simplifying bonding processes.- Offers excellent fatigue endurance, contributing to long-lasting bonds under dynamic stress.- Provides outstanding impact resistance and superior toughness.- Achieves high tensile and shear strength for robust structural bonds.- Fast curing at room temperature, enhancing production efficiency.- Excellent gap-filling capabilities, accommodating irregular surfaces (0.03 in. – 0.375 in. or 0.75 mm – 9.5 mm).- Capable of bonding dissimilar materials effectively.- VOC-compliant.- Exhibits excellent resistance to hydrocarbons, acids and bases (pH 3-10), and salt solutions.- Dispensed as a non-sagging gel, allowing for precise application.
Key Properties
- Product Type: Two-part methacrylate adhesive.- Mix Ratio (by volume): 10:1.- Working Time: 30-35 minutes (at 74°F / 23°C).- Fixture Time: 80-90 minutes (at 74°F / 23°C).- Operating Temperature: -40°F to 180°F (-40°C to 82°C).- Tensile Strength: 2,000 – 2,500 psi (13.8 – 17.2 MPa).- Shear Strength: 1,600 – 2,300 psi (11.0 – 15.9 MPa).- Tensile Elongation: 120 – 140%.- Color (mixed): Blue.- Viscosity (cP): Adhesive (Part A): 100,000 – 125,000; Activator (Part B): 35,000 – 70,000.

Known backups / known substitutes
- Maven MMA425- Other Plexus MMA adhesives (e.g., MA300, MA420, MA530, MA832, MA920, MA2015, MA2030, MA205HV).- Methacrylate adhesives from other manufacturers (e.g., 3M, ASI MMA, LOCTITE, LORD, SCIGRIP, SikaFast).- Epoxy adhesives (e.g., Devcon, Plexus H4110).- Urethane adhesives.
Comparison Note
Plexus MA425 stands out with its relatively long working time of 30-35 minutes, which is beneficial for applications requiring more assembly time, unlike some faster-curing MMA adhesives like Plexus MA420 (4-6 minutes). It offers a unique blend of excellent fatigue endurance, outstanding impact resistance, and superior toughness, making it a robust alternative to traditional mechanical fasteners or welding, often without the need for extensive surface preparation. While MMA adhesives generally provide rapid cure times, high peel strength, and good temperature resistance, they can have a noticeable odor and are flammable, considerations for proper handling and ventilation.
