Brief Description
Plexus H4110 Activator is a 5-gallon container of the Part B component for the Plexus H4110 adhesive system. Plexus H4110 is an elastic semi-structural two-part hybrid adhesive designed to form flexible, durable bonds with a wide variety of substrates.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Bonding composites such as FRP, epoxy, DCPD, Gelcoat, Phenolics, and RIM.- Adhering thermoplastics.- Joining various metals including aluminum, stainless steel, raw steel, and coated metals (powder coated or E-coated).- Bonding wood, concrete, and cement.- Marine applications like deck-to-hull, liners, and composite stringers.- Manufacturing of wind turbine components such as wind-blades, nacelle housings, and lightning suppression systems.- Transportation industry uses, including bonding floors, interior panels, roof assemblies, and body panels in rail wagons, buses, and trucks.- General manufacturing and assembly processes, often as a replacement for traditional fastening methods like riveting and welding.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair (for transportation vehicles)- Cabinet & Woodworking- Cladding (architectural cladding, facade)- Concrete- Construction/ Building Services- Countertop (fabrication)- Energy (wind turbine manufacturing)- Fabrication (metal and plastic)- General Manufacturing- Government & Military- LED/Electronics- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle
Special and Unique Features
- Forms elastic, semi-structural bonds that allow for joint movement.- Offers excellent environmental resistance.- Features excellent gap-filling capabilities and a thixotropic (non-sagging gel) consistency.- Easy-to-use 1:1 mix ratio with its corresponding adhesive.- Characterized by low exotherm and low odor during curing.- Provides low print-through and low shrinkage.- Achieves primerless adhesion to many substrates, reducing surface preparation steps.- Contributes to high throughput and reliable production by eliminating rework.- Allows for flexibility with impacts and accommodates thermal expansion.- Can be repositioned during assembly.- Repairable without damaging panels.- Capable of bonding multiple dissimilar materials effectively.- Offers a one-step process for joining and sealing.
Key Properties
- Mix Ratio: 1:1 (Adhesive to Activator)- Working Time: 8-12 minutes- Handling Time: 65-75 minutes- Tensile Strength: 950 psi (6.5 MPa)- Tensile Elongation: 150%- Adhesive Viscosity (Part A): 60,000 cP- Activator Viscosity (Part B): 60,000 cP- Operating Temperature: -40°F to 180°F (-40°C to 82°C)- Color (Mixed): Gray- Shelf Life: Approximately 6 months
Surface Compatibility
- Composites (DCPD, FRP, Gelcoat, Phenolics, Epoxy Based Composites, RIM, Fiberglass, SMC)- Thermoplastics- Metals (Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Raw Steel, Powder coated or E-coated Metals, Galvanized / Zinc Coated Galvaneal)- Wood- Concrete- Cement
Known backups / known substitutes
- Infinity Bond epoxy (as a general alternative to Plexus H4110).- Other Plexus methacrylate adhesives like MA2015, MA330, MA920, MA1020, MA420, MA420FS, MA2045, which offer similar structural bonding capabilities for various applications.- General categories of structural adhesives such as structural acrylics (MMA), epoxies, and polyurethanes from brands like 3M Scotch-Weld, Araldite, ASI, Devcon, LOCTITE, LORD, SCIGRIP, and Sika.
Comparison Note
Plexus H4110 adhesive system, including this activator, offers superior cure speed and forms flexible, elastic bonds that accommodate joint movement, unlike traditional mechanical fasteners such as rivets or tapes which can concentrate stress or cause panel ripples. Its primerless adhesion simplifies processes, and its excellent gap-filling properties allow for greater manufacturing tolerances compared to solutions limited to specific gap sizes. Furthermore, it enables the bonding of dissimilar materials and provides a one-step solution for both joining and sealing.
