The piston insertion tool for 200ml C- and J-Series Sulzer MixPac cartridges makes installing & sealing the pistons easy and standardized, and is a crucial step after filling operations are complete.
Part Number: PIDQ_0200-01-01
Works with Atlas Professional 200ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part empty cartridges, and Sulzer's C- and J-Series 200ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part empty cartridges.
Compatible with MixPac cartridge: AJ 200-01-10-01 and AC 200-01-10-01
There is a single piston insertion tool that fits both barrels of the 200 ml 1:1 cartridges.
How it works: Four easy steps.
Installing pistons with the insertion tool is super easy once you understand how the piston is built and how to use the insertion tool.
The Pistons are the next generation of piston technology, incorporating a diaphragm instead of a push-pin. The Insertion Tool opens the diaphragm up so air can release during installation.
- Notice that the insertion tool has a bump or button on the top side. This button is very important, and is used to both hold the piston in place AND push/keep the air release diaphragm open during insertion/installation.
- Place the piston atop the insertion tool, so that the gray diaphragm side is facing up atop the tool and the hard plastic spokes side is facing down onto the tool. Make sure that the Insertion tool's button or bump fits inside the center hole/cavity of the piston, so that it helps keep the piston on the tool.
- Using the insertion tool, press the piston inside the back end of the cartridge and gently press it in. The 'bump' or 'button' on the tool keeps the Piston's air release valve/diaphragm open so that air can escape as the piston is pushed in.
- Finally, when the piston hits the adhesive or material, you will feel a gentle resistance, and stop. The piston automatically seals as soon as you remove the insertion tool. The piston is now installed, sealed, and air has been evacuated.
This video illustrates a cross section of how the Piston Insertion tool holds open the Piston to allow the trapped-in air to release out of the cartridge while the pistons are pressed/pushed down during the installation step.
Product Name
Piston Insertion Tool for 200 ml 1:1 ratio 2-Part cartridges -MixPac C-System and J-System
Brief Description
This tool is specifically designed to facilitate the easy and standardized insertion of pistons into 200ml 1:1 ratio two-part adhesive cartridges, particularly those from the Sulzer MixPac (now MedMix) C-System and J-System.Its primary function is to create an air-free seal within the cartridges after they have been filled with two-component materials, which is a critical step for ensuring accurate dispensing and maintaining material integrity.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Preparing 2-part adhesive and sealant cartridges for subsequent dispensing.- Ensuring an air-free and leakproof seal in filled dual-component cartridges to prevent curing and maintain shelf life.- Used in the packaging process of two-component adhesives and sealants by manufacturers and suppliers.- Essential for operations requiring precise and consistent application of two-part materials.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense - for high-performance bonding and sealing applications.- Automotive Service/Repair - for panel bonding, structural adhesives, and other vehicle maintenance tasks.- Chemical Industry - particularly by manufacturers and packagers of two-component adhesives and sealants.- Construction/ Building Services - for applications like crack repair, waterproofing, roofing, and chemical anchoring.- Distributers & Resellers - who fill and supply two-part adhesive cartridges to end-users.- General Manufacturing - for various assembly, bonding, and sealing processes across different product lines.- LED/Electronics - for potting, encapsulation, and bonding electronic components.- Metal Fabrication - for bonding and sealing metal components.- Plastic Fabrication - for bonding and sealing plastic parts.- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle - for manufacturing and repair involving specialized bonding and sealing.
Special and Unique Features
- **Air Release Mechanism:** The tool is designed to work with specific piston types (e.g., diaphragm or push-pin) to allow trapped air to escape during insertion, preventing air pockets that can compromise adhesive performance.- **Standardized Insertion:** It ensures consistent and proper seating of pistons, which is vital for reliable dispensing and material integrity.- **System Compatibility:** Specifically engineered for 200ml 1:1 ratio MixPac C-System and J-System cartridges, including compatible Atlas Professional cartridges.- **Ease of Use:** The insertion process is described as straightforward and easy to understand, involving a few simple steps.- **Diaphragm Support:** For pistons with a diaphragm, the tool's button or bump holds the piston in place and keeps the air release diaphragm open during insertion.
Key Properties
- **Precision:** Ensures pistons are seated correctly and consistently, which is critical for accurate on-ratio dispensing of two-part materials.- **Efficiency:** Streamlines the piston insertion process, reducing manual effort and saving time in cartridge preparation.- **Reliability:** Contributes significantly to the integrity and extended shelf life of two-component materials by effectively eliminating trapped air.- **Durability:** Designed for repeated use in industrial and professional settings, though specific material composition is not detailed.
Surface Compatibility
This product is a tool for preparing adhesive cartridges, not for applying adhesives directly to surfaces. Therefore, the concept of "surface compatibility" does not apply to the tool itself. Its compatibility is with the specified 200ml 1:1 ratio MixPac C-System and J-System cartridges and their corresponding piston types.
Known backups / known substitutes
- **Manual Piston Insertion:** While possible, inserting pistons manually is less standardized and significantly increases the risk of air entrapment, leading to inconsistent dispensing and material waste.- **Alternative Piston Insertion Tools:** Other tools exist for different cartridge sizes (e.g., 50ml, 400ml) or alternative piston designs (e.g., push-pin style pistons).- **Automated Piston Insertion Equipment:** For high-volume production environments, more advanced and automated machinery, such as the Atlas 2K Piston Inserter, offers features like auto bleed valves for maximum efficiency.
Comparison Note
This Piston Insertion Tool offers a substantial advantage over purely manual methods by standardizing the piston insertion process and ensuring an air-free seal, which is paramount for the consistent performance and shelf life of two-part adhesives.Compared to more automated or specialized piston inserters, this tool provides a cost-effective, user-friendly, and efficient solution specifically tailored for 200ml MixPac C-System and J-System cartridges, making it ideal for various industrial and professional users who require reliable cartridge preparation without the investment in fully automated systems.
