Special and Unique Features
- Two-part, room temperature curing system.- Fast setting with a working time of 4-7 minutes and handling strength in 60-90 minutes.- Thixotropic, non-slump rheology, allowing for gap filling up to 5mm and use on vertical surfaces.- Easy 1:1 mix ratio by volume.- Excellent environmental and chemical resistance.- Good resistance to impact and vibration, ensuring durable bonds in dynamic environments.- High shear and tensile strength.
Key Properties
- Chemical Composition: Polyurethane (Part A), Isocyanate (Part B).- Appearance (Uncured): Black (Part A), Cream (Part B).- Appearance (Cured): Dark Grey.- Viscosity @ 25°C: 4000-8000 mPa.s (cP) for uncured components.- Working Time: 4-7 minutes.- Handling Strength: 60-90 minutes.- Full Cure Time: 4-5 days (or 72 hours).- Shear Strength (Stainless Steel): 12-20 N/mm² (MPa).- Tensile Strength: 16-25 MPa.- Elongation: <15%.- Hardness: 70 Shore D (Hard/Rigid).- Temperature Resistance: -40°C (-40°F) to 105°C (Hot Strength).- Maximum Gap Fill: 5mm.
Surface Compatibility
- Metals (e.g., aluminum, mild steel).- Plastics.- Composites (e.g., carbon fiber, fiberglass-reinforced polymers (FRP)).- Wood.- Ceramics.- Surfaces should be clean, dry, and grease-free for optimal adhesion.- Users should check compatibility with certain thermoplastics.
Known backups / known substitutes
- MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) Adhesives: Such as Plexus MA300, Devcon Plastic Welder, or Maven MMA3002.- Epoxy Adhesives: Such as 3M Scotch-Weld DP100 or Maven Epoxy EA 501MV.- Silicone Sealants: For semi-structural or sealing applications where flexibility is paramount.- MS Polymer Adhesives: Also suitable for semi-structural and sealing needs.- Other Fast-Set Polyurethane Adhesives: Examples include Araldite 2028-1, SEM Quick Set 50/180, or Titebond Fast Set Polyurethane Construction Adhesive.
Comparison Note
Permabond PT326, as a polyurethane adhesive, offers a unique balance of flexibility, strength, and durability, making it particularly effective in applications requiring resistance to vibration and dynamic stresses. While epoxy adhesives typically provide stiffer and higher mechanical resistance, and acrylics excel at bonding problematic low-surface-energy plastics without primers, polyurethanes like PT326 are often preferred when a combination of strong adhesion with inherent flexibility and impact resistance is critical.
