Product Name
- PERMABOND ET514 Slow Set 30 - 50 min 1:1 Mixable Two-Part Epoxy Adhesive Cartridges & Accessories
Brief Description
PERMABOND ET514 is a high-strength, two-part, 1:1 mixable epoxy adhesive designed for structural bonding applications. It offers excellent resistance to impact and vibration, making it suitable for demanding environments. This adhesive cures at room temperature and provides high shear and peel strength with good environmental durability.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Structural bonding of various substrates including metals, wood, composites, and certain plastics.- Applications requiring excellent resistance to impact and vibration.- Bonding components that may be exposed to harsh environments.- Ideal for large gaps or vertical applications due to its gap-filling capabilities.- Suitable for processes involving brief exposure to higher temperatures like paint baking and wave soldering.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Aerospace/Defense- Automotive Service/Repair- Construction/Building Services- Fabrication- General Manufacturing- Marine- Metal Fabrication- Plastic Fabrication- Transportation/Specialty Vehicle- Cabinet & Woodworking- LED/Electronics
Special and Unique Features
- 1:1 mix ratio for easy application.- Excellent resistance to impact and vibration.- High shear and peel strength.- Good environmental durability.- Full cure at room temperature.- Low shrinkage during cure.- Versatile bonding on a wide variety of substrates.- Gap-filling capabilities up to 2 mm.
Key Properties
- Chemical Composition: Epoxy Resin (A side), Polyamine Hardener (B side).- Mix Ratio by Volume: 1:1.- Usable / Pot Life @ 23°C: 30-50 minutes.- Handling Time @ 23°C: 60-120 minutes.- Full Cure @ 23°C: 24 hours.- Maximum Gap Fill: 2 mm (0.08 in).- Shear Strength (Mild steel): 20-30 N/mm² (2900-4350 psi).- Peel Strength (Aluminium): 100-150 N/25mm (23-34 PIW).- Hardness (ISO868): 60-75 Shore D.- Elongation at break (ISO37): 10-15%.- Glass Transition Temperature (Tg): 40-50°C (104-122°F).- Temperature Resistance: -40°C to +80°C (-40°F to +175°F) for continuous operation, with brief periods up to 175°C (347°F) for paint baking/wave soldering.- Appearance: White (A side), Black (B side).
Surface Compatibility
- Metals (e.g., mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper).- Wood.- Composites (e.g., carbon fiber, FRP Glass/Polyester, FRP Glass/Epoxy).- Certain plastics (e.g., PEEK, Polycarbonate, PA6 filled and unfilled).- Surfaces should be clean, dry, and grease-free before application.- Degreasing with suitable solvents like acetone or isopropanol is recommended.- Light abrasion with emery cloth may benefit some metals like aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Permabond ET538 (ET514 is a faster curing version of ET538).- Loctite ESP110 (as an alternative to ET514).- Other two-part epoxy adhesives with similar slow set times and structural properties, such as Araldite 2031-1 or Araldite 2011 for slow-setting, all-purpose epoxy.- Plexus MA530 or MA560-1 (methacrylate adhesives for large structures, offering high strength, impact resistance, and toughness, though different chemistry).
Comparison Note
PERMABOND ET514 stands out as a toughened structural epoxy with a balanced 30-50 minute usable pot life, offering a good working time for assembly while still achieving full cure within 24 hours at room temperature. Its excellent impact and vibration resistance, coupled with high shear and peel strength, make it a robust choice for critical structural bonds compared to general-purpose epoxies. While other epoxies like ET538 exist, ET514 offers a faster cure speed. Methacrylate adhesives like Plexus MA530 or MA560-1 also provide high strength and toughness for large structures but are a different chemical type.
