Permabond 737 Black Magic is a black, toughened cyanoacrylate instant adhesive designed for assemblies that need higher impact resistance, peel strength, and flexibility than a standard super glue. Its medium-to-high viscosity helps bridge gaps up to 0.5 mm (0.02 in), while its rapid fixture time supports fast production and repair work without mixing or heat curing.

Permabond 737 bonds quickly to many metals, plastics, and rubbers. The black cured appearance blends well with dark components and also makes the adhesive easy to see during application and quality inspection.

Key Features

  • Toughened and flexible for improved impact and peel resistance
  • Fills gaps up to 0.5 mm (0.02 in)
  • Fast fixture time on metals, plastics, and rubber
  • Single-component formula requires no mixing or heat cure
  • Black color is well suited to dark assemblies and visible bond-line inspection
  • 100% reactive, solvent-free adhesive
  • Reaches full strength after 24 hours

Compatible Materials

Permabond 737 is recommended for bonding a broad range of rigid and flexible substrates, including:

  • Metals: aluminum, uncoated steel, zinc-plated steel, copper, and copper alloys
  • Plastics: ABS, rigid PVC, polycarbonate (PC), and phenolic materials
  • Rubbers: Buna-N and other compatible elastomers

Aluminum, copper, and copper alloys may benefit from light abrasion to remove the oxide layer before bonding. Polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone require Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP). For difficult, porous, acidic, or slower-curing surfaces, use Permabond C Surface Activator (CSA) or Permabond QFS16.

Because plastics and elastomers vary by grade and formulation, test the complete assembly under actual service conditions before production use.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the surfaces: Make sure all bonding surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease. Degrease with a suitable solvent such as acetone or isopropanol. Lightly abrade oxidized metals when appropriate.
  2. Condition the adhesive: If refrigerated, allow the unopened bottle to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation inside the container.
  3. Shake before use: Shake the bottle thoroughly.
  4. Apply sparingly: Apply a small amount of adhesive to one surface only.
  5. Assemble immediately: Bring the components together quickly and in the correct alignment.
  6. Apply pressure: Press the parts together firmly enough to spread the adhesive into a thin, even film.
  7. Allow the bond to fixture: Do not move or realign the parts until sufficient handling strength has developed. This normally takes only a few seconds and varies by material.
  8. Remove excess: Uncured surplus adhesive may be removed with Permabond CA Solvent, nitromethane, or acetone. Confirm solvent compatibility with the substrate before cleaning.
  9. Allow full cure: Wait 24 hours before evaluating final bond strength or placing the joint into service.

Fixture times and final strength vary with surface preparation, bond gap, temperature, humidity, and the materials being joined. Larger gaps and acidic surfaces slow curing. Permabond 737 is not recommended for contact with strong oxidizing materials or polar solvents, although a brief solvent wash may be tolerated after full cure. Consult the Safety Data Sheet before use.
