Made of 100% pure PVC plastic (Polyvinyl Chloride), no impurities. All Plastic Rods, Coils & Reels should be used with an appropriate plastic welding iron, heat dispenser or torch with applicable attachments.
PVC Rods, Coils & Reels can be used for several popular types of repair jobs, but each plastic repair job needs to be carefully matched to the same type of Plastic Rod or Coil. These rRods, Coils & Reels are PVC Plastic.
Warning: Mixing different types of plastics will likely result in poor quality repairs and poor longevity of the welds. Quite Simply, match your plastics and you're good... different plastics simply don't work well together.
PVC Rods, Coils & Reels: Use with any plastic labeled Recycling # 3. Also typically includes Water pipes, lawn sprinkler underground horizontal pipes, Toys
Product Name
Maven Plastics - PVC Gray Plastic Welding Rods, Coils & Reels
Brief Description
These are PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) plastic welding rods, coils, and reels, specifically designed as a filler material for joining and repairing PVC components. Their gray color is consistent with Schedule 80 gray PVC piping, ensuring aesthetic and material compatibility for industrial and plumbing applications.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Welding and repairing PVC pipes, fittings, and drainage systems.- Fabrication and repair of chemical tanks, manifolds, valve and pump housings.- Repairing and fabricating various PVC components in construction, such as siding, window frames, and roofing.- Automotive plastic component repair.- General plastic repair and fabrication projects requiring strong, durable PVC bonds.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Chemical Industry- Construction/Building Services- Plastic Fabrication- Pool/Spa/Plumbing- Automotive Service/Repair- General Manufacturing- Marine- Sign & Display- Prosumer (for DIY and home repair projects)- Distributers & Resellers
Special and Unique Features
- Made from 100% pure and homogeneous PVC material.- Gray color specifically matched to standard Schedule 80 gray PVC pipes for seamless repairs and aesthetic consistency.- Available in various shapes (round, triangular, ribbon) and packaging options (rods, coils, reels) to suit diverse welding needs.- Offers excellent surface brightness and uniform color.- Can be used with appropriate plastic welding irons, heat dispensers, or torches.
Key Properties
- Material: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Type 1.- Color: Gray, consistent with Schedule 80 PVC piping.- High resistance to chemicals, corrosion, moisture, mold, and algae.- Excellent dimensional stability, strength, and stiffness.- Good electrical insulation properties.- Low cost and easily bondable.- High wear resistance and good self-lubrication during welding.- Melting point around 220-230°C (428-446°F), continuous use temperature -30°C to +60°C (-22°F to +140°F).- UL94 Flammability: V-0.
Surface Compatibility
- Strictly compatible with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) materials, especially rigid PVC (uPVC) and Schedule 80 PVC.- "Like-to-like" welding is crucial for strong, high-quality, and durable bonds.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other plastic welding rods made from different polymers (e.g., CPVC, PP, HDPE, ABS, PVDF) for their respective plastic types.- Solvent cementing for PVC pipes and fittings, which creates a chemical bond.- Mechanical fastening methods (e.g., fasteners, interlocking shapes) for joining plastics.- Adhesives (e.g., epoxy) for bonding plastics, though often less effective than welding for many plastics.
Comparison Note
- Plastic welding with these rods creates strong, durable, and often watertight bonds that can be as strong as the original material, often surpassing the strength of many glues or adhesives for plastic.- Unlike solvent cementing, which chemically softens and fuses surfaces, welding involves melting a filler rod to create a seamless bond, offering advantages in certain repair and fabrication scenarios.- The gray color consistency with Schedule 80 piping provides an aesthetic advantage for repairs and new installations where visual uniformity is desired.
