Product Name
LORD Maxlok T18 MX 4:1 Ratio Medium Set 18-24 min Acrylic Adhesive non-sagging, and resistance to temperature
Brief Description
LORD Maxlok T18 MX is a two-component, non-sag acrylic structural adhesive designed to replace traditional mechanical fastening methods such as welding, brazing, and riveting. It offers high peel and impact strength, excellent temperature resistance, and environmental durability, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications.
Popular Applications & Uses
- Rapid structural bonding in transportation, including truck/trailer panels and brackets.- Metal-to-plastic enclosure assembly for industrial equipment.- Composite panel attachment for OEM and aftermarket builds.- Automotive assembly and appliance manufacturing.- HVAC equipment and general metal fabrication.
Industries that Commonly Use It
- Transportation/Specialty Vehicle (e.g., truck and trailer OEMs, agriculture/off-highway equipment, automotive assembly).- General Manufacturing (e.g., industrial machinery manufacturers, appliance manufacturing, HVAC equipment).- Marine (e.g., recreational composites).- Metal Fabrication.- Aerospace/Defense.- Energy (e.g., battery, power).- Medical Device/Prosthetics.- Government & Military.
Special and Unique Features
- Non-sag formula ensures the adhesive remains in position when applied on vertical or overhead surfaces, providing greater process flexibility.- Contains glass beads for precise bondline control, allowing for an optimal bondline thickness of 0.01″ (0.025 cm).- Achieves fast handling strength at room temperature.- Versatile bonding capability for a wide range of unprepared metals, plastics, and composites with minimal surface preparation.- Engineered to replace welding, brazing, riveting, and other mechanical fastening methods.
Key Properties
- High peel and impact strength.- Temperature resistant, performing reliably from -40°F to +300°F (-40°C to +149°C).- Environmentally resistant to dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, greases, oils, moisture, salt spray, and weathering, with excellent resistance to indirect UV exposure.- Medium working time of 18-24 minutes at 77°F (25°C).- Handling time of 48-72 minutes.- Full cure time of 24 hours.- Mixed appearance is a gray paste.- Viscosity at 25°C ranges from 70,000 to 220,000 cP.- Elongation greater than 10%.- 100% solids content.- Shelf life of 9 months when stored below 80°F (27°C) in original, unopened containers.
Surface Compatibility
- Bonds a wide range of metals, including aluminum alloys, galvanized/coated steels, and powder-coated surfaces.- Compatible with various composites such as fiberglass-reinforced polyester, carbon fiber laminates, and gel-coated panels.- Adheres to many plastics, including ABS, polycarbonate (PC), acrylic (PMMA), and PVC.- Requires minimal surface preparation; typically, normal amounts of mill oils and drawing compounds do not hinder adhesion. Some plastics may benefit from abrading for optimal performance.
Known backups / known substitutes
- Other LORD Maxlok series, such as MX/T3 and MX/T6, which offer different working times.- LORD 204/17 and LORD 206 acrylic adhesive systems.- LORD 305, a general-purpose, medium viscosity, two-component epoxy adhesive.- Signlok 810, a fast-curing, two-component adhesive for metals and plastics.- MMA adhesives from other manufacturers like Plexus MA300 and Infinity Bond MMA 420.- Structural adhesives from brands such as 3M, Araldite, ASI, Loctite, Sika, and Scigrip may also serve as alternatives depending on specific application requirements.
Comparison Note
LORD Maxlok T18 MX offers a superior alternative to traditional mechanical fastening methods like welding, brazing, and riveting by providing strong, durable bonds with high impact and peel resistance. It eliminates the costs and complexities associated with metal preparation and finishing operations, offering design flexibility and improving overall manufacturing processes. Its extended working time provides greater flexibility for assembly processes compared to faster-curing alternatives.
