Industries that Commonly Use It
- Automotive Service/Repair- General Manufacturing- Plastic Fabrication- Metal Fabrication- Marine- Transportation/ Specialty Vehicle- Fabrication
Special and Unique Features
- Configurable set-time, allowing selection of curative for desired working life- Thick viscosity and non-sag properties, ensuring it stays in place on vertical or overhead surfaces- Demonstrates high strength and excellent durability for structural applications- Environmentally resistant, withstanding sunlight, weathering, humidity, and salt spray- Chemically resistant; solvent resistant when cured, allowing painting and most cleaning processes without affecting bond strength- Non-flammable, exceeding U.S. DOT requirements and not requiring explosion-proof equipment- Does not contain ozone depleting chemicals- Cured adhesive provides a suitable off-white appearance for non-painted or visible applications- Requires minimal surface preparation for plastics
Key Properties
- Adhesive Type: Two-component urethane adhesive system- Mix Ratio: 1:1 by volume (resin to curative)- Viscosity: Thick, non-sag paste/gel- Working Time: Configurable, typically 10-20 minutes for medium set, with options ranging from 1.5 minutes to 65 minutes depending on curative- Cure Time: Achieves full strength in 24 hours at 75°F (24°C)- Handling Strength: Varies by curative, e.g., 90 minutes for A/D- Color: Cured adhesive is off-white; Resin is brown paste, Curative can be off-white or black paste- Flash Point: >200°F (>93°C)- Shelf Life: 6 months when stored in original, unopened container at 65-85°F (18-30°C)
Surface Compatibility
- FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic)- SMC (Sheet Molded Compound)- Various plastics (rigid plastics, and flexible plastics when used with an adhesion promoter)- Primed metals (e.g., steel, aluminum)- Combinations of dissimilar substrates
Known backups / known substitutes
- 3M™ SMC/Fiberglass Repair Adhesives (two-part urethanes or epoxies)- Norton SpeedGrip/PLIOGRIP SMC/FRP Fiberglass Urethane Adhesive- Other structural acrylic (MMA), epoxy, or polyurethane adhesives designed for similar bonding applications.
Comparison Note
LORD 7545 A/D distinguishes itself with its highly configurable set times, allowing users to precisely match the adhesive's working life to their specific process requirements. Its thick, non-sag viscosity is particularly advantageous for applications on vertical or overhead surfaces, ensuring the adhesive remains in place. Furthermore, it offers robust resistance to a wide range of environmental conditions and chemicals, contributing to long-lasting and durable bonds.
