Loctite SI 5699 is a grey, one-part RTV silicone gasket maker designed to form flexible, durable seals on flanged assemblies. Its non-corrosive oxime-silicone chemistry is especially useful for rigid flange sealing where resistance to motor oil and water/glycol coolant mixtures is required, including transmissions and cast-metal housings.

Key Benefits

  • Forms a flexible, moisture-cured silicone gasket directly on the assembly.
  • One-part, thixotropic paste requires no mixing and resists slumping after application.
  • Provides excellent oil resistance and documented resistance to water/glycol mixtures.
  • Non-corrosive formulation is suitable for corrosion-sensitive assemblies.
  • Works on machined, cast, flexible, metal and compatible plastic flange surfaces.
  • Tack-free in 30 minutes or less under the TDS test conditions.

Popular Applications

  • Transmission and gearbox housings
  • Cast-metal and machined flanges
  • Powertrain and heavy-equipment assemblies
  • Industrial machinery housings and covers
  • Metal or compatible plastic flange sealing
  • Assemblies exposed to oil or water/glycol coolant

Typical Lap-Shear Performance

The following TDS values were measured after 14 days of cure at 23°C and 60 ± 5% relative humidity with a 0.5 mm bond gap.

Substrate Lap-shear strength
Aluminum 0.1–0.7 N/mm² (15–102 psi)
Zinc dichromate 0.7–1.5 N/mm² (102–213 psi)
Mild steel, grit blasted 1.3–2.1 N/mm² (189–305 psi)
Aluminum, abraded 1.3–2.0 N/mm² (189–290 psi)

Application and Cure Guidance

  1. Clean mating surfaces thoroughly and remove grease.
  2. Apply the sealant and assemble the parts within a few minutes. Moisture curing begins as soon as the material is exposed to air.
  3. Allow the assembled joint to cure before heavy service; the TDS uses seven days as an example for heavy-load exposure.
  4. Before cure, excess material can be removed with a suitable non-polar solvent such as mineral spirits or a naphtha-based cleaner.

Important Limitations

Not recommended for contact with gasoline, pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or other strong oxidizing materials. Cure speed and depth depend on temperature, humidity and joint thickness. Review the package-specific SDS and product label before use.
