LOCTITE® 222 is a purple, low-strength anaerobic threadlocker for small metal fasteners up to 6.35 mm (1/4 in.) in diameter. It helps prevent loosening and leakage caused by shock and vibration while allowing routine disassembly with standard hand tools.
Best for
- Adjustment screws, countersunk screws, and set screws
- Small-diameter or long-engagement fasteners
- Low-strength metals such as aluminum and brass
- Vibrating assemblies including pumps, gearboxes, and presses
- Chassis, HVAC, fastener, and powertrain applications
Key features
- Low-strength, removable formula
- One-component; no mixing required
- Anaerobic cure on close-fitting metal surfaces
- Thixotropic liquid helps reduce migration after application
- Fluorescent for inspection
- Works with active and passive metals
- NSF P1 registration 123002 (regional approval for Europe)

Directions
- Clean external and internal threads with a suitable LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and allow them to dry.
- Shake thoroughly. For inactive metals or slow cure conditions, use LOCTITE® Activator SF 7471 or SF 7649 and allow it to dry.
- Apply several drops at the nut engagement area for through holes, or into the bottom of blind holes. For sealing, apply a full bead around the male threads while leaving the first thread free.
- Assemble and tighten as required.
- For removal, use standard hand tools. If excessive engagement prevents removal, heat the nut or bolt locally to approximately 250°C and disassemble while hot.
Storage
Keep the unopened container dry. Optimal storage temperature is 8°C to 21°C (46°F to 70°F); temperatures below 8°C or above 28°C may affect product properties.

LOCTITE 222 is commonly selected when small threaded fasteners must resist vibration but still come apart with ordinary hand tools for adjustment or maintenance.
- Locking adjustment screws, countersunk head screws, and set screws
- Securing small metal fasteners up to 6.35 mm (1/4 in.) in diameter
- Preventing loosening on vibrating pumps, gearboxes, presses, and rotating equipment
- Threadlocking aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and plated metal assemblies
- Serviceable assemblies that require routine adjustment or hand-tool disassembly
- Chassis, HVAC, electric motor, machinery, and powertrain fasteners
- Locking and sealing close-fitting metal threads against shock, vibration, and leakage
