GLYPTAL® 1201 Red Insulating Enamel is a versatile industrial coating developed to insulate, seal and protect electrical components, metal surfaces and industrial equipment. Its durable, low-gloss red film adheres to materials including metal, ceramic, porcelain, concrete, fiber and wood.
Originally designed for coating electrical coils and armatures, GLYPTAL 1201 also provides dependable protection against moisture, corrosion, oil, salt water, mild acids, heat, dust and abrasion. It can be used as an electrical insulating coating, industrial primer, protective finish, concrete sealer, gasket adhesive or thread sealer.
The enamel is supplied ready for brush application and may be thinned appropriately for spraying. It becomes dust-free in approximately 30 minutes and can be handled after approximately two hours under typical conditions.

Application Information
Surfaces should be clean, dry and free of oil, dust, rust and other contaminants before application. Apply by brush as supplied or thin with an appropriate compatible solvent when preparing the coating for spray application. When multiple coats are required, allow adequate drying time between applications.
Test the product on the intended substrate and under actual service conditions before beginning a full production application.
Safety and Handling
GLYPTAL 1201 is a highly flammable solvent-based coating. Use it only outdoors or in a well-ventilated work area and keep it away from heat, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. Wear appropriate gloves, protective clothing and eye protection. Avoid breathing vapors or spray mist and consult the current Safety Data Sheet before use, storage, transportation or disposal.
Popular Uses for GLYPTAL 1201 Red Insulating Enamel
Electrical Motor and Generator Maintenance
Originally developed for electrical insulation, GLYPTAL 1201 is used to coat coils and armatures. It also serves as a primer and protective finish for motor, generator and transformer housings, helping protect equipment against moisture and corrosion.
Hydraulic Tanks and Bearing Cases
GLYPTAL 1201 can be used to coat the interiors of hydraulic tanks and bearing cases. Its oil resistance and durable film make it useful for these industrial applications. Confirm compatibility with the specific fluid and operating conditions before use.
Metal Priming and Corrosion Protection
Use GLYPTAL 1201 as a primer for structural iron and steel or as a protective finish on machinery, winches and outdoor equipment. Its coating helps shield surfaces from moisture, salt exposure and other conditions that contribute to corrosion.
Gasket Bonding and Thread Sealing
GLYPTAL 1201 can serve as a gasket adhesive and a sealer for pipe threads, stud threads and vacuum-system components. Check suitability for the assembly’s pressure, temperature and chemical exposure before application.
Moisture Protection for Equipment Components
The enamel provides an anti-moisture coating for parts used in thermostats, water coolers and truck controls. It is useful where components need an added protective barrier against damp conditions.
Concrete Sealing and General Plant Maintenance
GLYPTAL 1201 is also used as a concrete-floor sealer and for general industrial maintenance. Its adhesion to metal, ceramic, porcelain, concrete, fiber and wood makes it a versatile option for a variety of protective-coating jobs.
