How Dishwasher Mounting to a Stone Countertop Works

A dishwasher ships with two straps meant to screw up into the underside of the counter top. That works on plywood and it doesn’t work on granite, quartz, or any other stone. The fix is a steel bar across the top of the opening that the straps catch instead. There are three ways to run it, and the install sheets cover each one.

Before the counter top is set

• Lay the bracket across the dishwasher opening on top of the cabinets, raised panels facing up, end tabs flush to the cabinet facing.
• Drive the four #6 x 1/2 in wood screws, two per end. Same screw size that hangs a cabinet door hinge, so it won’t split a face frame.
• Run silicone or rubberized adhesive caulk on the three raised panels.
• Set the counter top on the bracket. Squeeze-out gets concealed by the panel design.
• When the dishwasher shows up, screw its straps into whichever holes line up.

After the counter top is set

• Bend both end tabs to 90 degrees by hand, raised panels facing up. No tooling.
• Caulk the three raised panels.
• Slide the bracket under the top with the tabs flush to the cabinet facing and press it up against the stone.
• Screw the tabs into the cabinet sides, then caulk the edges for a finished seal.

Same sequence as the after-the-top install. Bend the tabs, caulk the panels, press up, screw the tabs to the cabinet sides, then strap the dishwasher to the bar.
